Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    insert to oracle database

    Hi All,
I'm stumbling my way through the Web Grid componant and I seem to have a problem on my detail view.

when I insert a new record into and oracle 10.2.03 database and then save the new information
    1. the database is updated with new data
    2. detail screen doesn't know the insert has happened
2.1 the save icon doesn't grey out
2.2 navigating away from view gets "you must save dialog"
2.3 debug activity log doesn't show any thing
    3. if you cancel the insert you can then leave screen
    4. refresh grid finds the newly entered data so the insert has hit the database fine
    5. updates and deletes work fine

I have tried both popup modeless and modal, both behave the same

    Any clues?

    thanks
    Garth

    Re: insert to oracle database

    Hi Garth,

It sound like a problems I was having a while back. The response from Alpha was that there is a bug that occurs with some grids. Here is the workaround"

"As a workaround on tabular grids where editing is allowed on the grid and new rows can be added to the list is to set the "Row refresh method after edits" to "Full page". Otherwise, the new row does not always move into the list of existing records after save as it should."

    Hope it helps.

      Hi Chris,

I'm experiencing this problem on the detail view, not the grid itself. The grid I believe is readonly

I experienced the same but a couple of months ago in some cases. But not anymore.

I use 2445-3353 (V10Beta) using ALPHADAO against Oracle 10G (Express). Tested it using the standard HR schema. See pic.

Did you try changing -the row refresh method after edits - in the detail view properties?

As rleunis metions, it is the same setting but on the Detail View properties, toward the bottom of the property sheet.

I have it against SQL Server Express.

          Cheers

              actually,

while this works for the inserts I've now got the situation where deleting a row leaves the details of the deleted row in the detail view. if you then continue to press delete the row highlighted on the grid gets deleted.

              ie

the grid and the detail view are not synchronised

                Re: insert to oracle database

I do NOT have the issue you mention deleting an entry .

                See PICS.
1: selecting a record for delete
2: Confirm the record to be deleted
3: Just after confirmation of delete

Do you have latest builds installed?
See Help > About Alpha Five. You should have:

                Version 9 - 2447 build 3354
