Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Where is info re: using the /div tag?

Some time not too long ago (a couple of months perhaps), there was something, someplace, that gave a link to a short audio/video demonstration re: using the div tag.

I don't remember if this was in an email from AlphaSoftware... or maybe it was something put together by Pete Conway. Or... Maybe it was, in fact, both? Or maybe it was an AlphaSoftware email referencing a link to a Pete Conway video clip?

I've tried to search the 231 emails from Alpha to no avail, and I've done a rudimentary search on the forum.

I want to review that video clip - but I can't remember where it was.

Anybody know what I'm talking about? Can you refresh my memory as to source and location?

Thanks! That's precisely the one I was hoping to find.

This is a very good video, well done by master Dave.

There is a point in the video where he says you need to go to WYSIWYG mode to insert a component. This is still true in V10 if you want to graphically 'drop in' the component, but in V10 they also added the ability to 'generate the code' you would need to insert the component, and then insert the code. That means you can stay in Source if you want to and still properly add a component, as long as you know where the code is supposed to go.

Also, towards the end where Dave says to add Style="left:xxx;top:xxx" to the DIV in order to position the Login component on top of the graphic -- the very best way to come up with what the values for xxx are is to use Firefox and get the add in Firebug.

With Firebug you can play with all of the CSS values, for instance scrolling the Left and Top values to exactly position the Login component where it needs to go. The Login component will actually move on your browser as you change the values. So if the result is Left=100 and Top=30 you then insert those numbers where Dave says to in the video.

I don't know if you are using V10 - but remember you can use mutliple DIV's in the one freeform area, basically stacking them on top of each other and the material to display will appear accordingly. It's very clever and seemless as the DIV and the Ajax windows all respect the stylesheet.

I've just begun working with the div option as just hadn't really clicked before what all I could do with it. I'm curious if there's a way to put more than one div in a detail view. I've been successful with one div a static text field, but if I add a second, only one will work at a time--opening one causes an error that messes with all the buttons (div and non-div related) in that detail view. There's some clarification about specifying a grid row if adding the div to the freeform region of a grid--is there a way to be more specific in the detail view itself?
