Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Report.SaveAs

    The following code compiles and executes without error:

    fil_nam = report.saveas("oi_statement","PDF","Rec_ID="+s_quote(t.Rec_id)," ","stmt.pdf")

    but I can't find the pdf file.

    So, I changed the code to:

    fil_nam = report.saveas("oi_statement","PDF","Rec_ID="+s_quote(t.Rec_id)," ","c:\stmt.pdf")

    i.e. to force the pdf to the root of c: and I get an error that the file cannot be created?

    I'm stumped, any help would be appreciated.

    Re: Report.SaveAs

    Try your original code from the interactive and then

    ? fil_nam

    You should see the full path to the saved pdf which should be the database directory.
    There can be only one.

      Thanks Stan... I did that, and the pdf is not there. It's pathed to the database directory, like you say... just not there.

        Maybe A5 has some kind of buggo that refuses to save a PDF to the root. Try coding to another directory. If that works (it should), then code a move command to move it to the root after the fact.

          Re: Report.SaveAs

          On my Main Menu on the OnInit events I determine the location of the report that is saved to a pdf.

          Code:
          DIM GLOBAL vEmailDir as C
          vEmailDir = A5.GET_EXE_PATH() + "\mail\email attachments\\"
          Then whereever I use report.saveas I use the following code

          Code:
          vReportName = "Communicator New Accts- " + vClntName
          vReportName = vEmailDir + vReportName
          Report.SaveAs("Communicator New Accts", "PDF", query.filter, query.order, vReportName, .F.)
          This works for me and the report is always there.

            Thanks Peter... but that didn't work either :-(

            I have worked around the problem, or I should say avoided the problem, for now... by not using report.saveas. Thanks for the replies.

              You might want to think about changing from "get_exe_path()" to "get_path()". In Vista (and I presume Windows 7?) you may not be able to write to the exe path. Obviously that will depend on how your computer is set up but certainly if someone else is using the application then you will be asking for trouble using the exe path.

                Too much mud in the water.
                In your first attempt, you say the file is saved but you can't find it.
                I don't think the file is saved. You should specify the full path. To confirm, search using Windows.

                In the second attempt, alpha refuses to create the file.
                Alright, you specified the full path, why then alpha is refusing to create the file?
                My guess, the filter you use in this script conflicts with the filter in the report, hence there are no records meeting the two combined filters, hence the file is not created.
                Just a guess.
                Check your filters.

                  Thanks David... doesn't help. The file does not seem to be created using the report.saveas.

                  Thanks Gabriel... I agree, the file is not being created... but can't figure out why. It is created, using the exact filter, using other methods... i.e. methods other than report.saveas.

                    Try this:
                    fil_nam = report.saveas("oi_statement","PDF","Rec_ID="+s_quote(t.Rec_id)," ","stmt.pdf")
                    Hard code the filter and see what happens..
                    OR:
                    Add that filter to the report itself and try this:
                    fil_nam = report.saveas("oi_statement")

                      Try it without the filter.

                      Code:
                      fil_nam = report.saveas("oi_statement","PDF",".t.","","stmt.pdf")

                        I have used your code with one of my test apps and it works - even saving to the C:/ root directory as well as other directories.

                        Attached a thumbnail with the code (onPush event on a button). I ran the code and you will see the message box telling where the file was saved.

                        If I go into the C:\ directory the PDF file is there and when clicked displays the report based on the filter.

                        FWIW

                          I know you got this to work but I'm wondering if it's related to the amyuni printer settings as discussed in previous threads with a solution.

                              The filter mentions t.Rec_id but it is not defined anywhere if your script is just the line below:

                              Code:
                              fil_nam = report.saveas("oi_statement","PDF","Rec_ID="+s_quote(t.Rec_id)," ","c:\stmt.pdf")
                              Alpha will compile the script but it will not check that t.Rec_id exists or is valid.
