Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    With regard to Fusion Charts and Tools

    We have long been aware of the value that charting brings to database applications such as Alpha Five. Good use of appropriate graphs, charts and graphic widgets can make a big difference to database applications proving to be useful in a customer setting in terms of data understanding/analysis and dashboards.

    We have partnered with Fusion Charts in particular because they produce great software in this field and because they are also very excited about the possibilities that arise from Alpha Five v10 and making their large customer base aware of Alpha Five v10.

    Building great charting software is not one of our current areas of expertise so it makes sense to partner vs building it ourselves.

    This webinar is designed to educate developers and users regarding the use of Alpha Five and Fusion. It is not complex but it does take some knowledge.

    In the future our plan is to build a genie to make this as easy as possible.

    Also we have negotiated special pricing for the Alpha community so that you will be able get discounted pricing. This will be available on our site in the coming few weeks.

          Regarding the xml data file production.
          I know its not terribly sophisticated, but wouldnt it be possible for the data.xml file to be produced by creating a report that saved a plain text file? Probably not applicable for all formats but the simple example below looks very achievable with strategic use of headers, footers and groups!

          <chart caption='Monthly Unit Sales' xAxisName='Month' yAxisName='Units' showValues='0' decimals='0' formatNumberScale='0'>
          <set label='Jan' value='462' />
          <set label='Feb' value='857' />
          <set label='Mar' value='671' />
          <set label='Apr' value='494' />
          <set label='May' value='761' />
          <set label='Jun' value='960' />
          <set label='Jul' value='629' />
          <set label='Aug' value='622' />
          <set label='Sep' value='376' />
          <set label='Oct' value='494' />
          <set label='Nov' value='761' />
          <set label='Dec' value='960' />

            An observation from the videography camp:

            Not that Alpha would or is in a position to, but the business model of Adobe fits this scenario. They have, quietly, waited for independent developers to build, test and distribute a product. They let it mature and see how the market reacts. Then Adobe makes a sweet deal with the developer and, in some cases, offers them a continuing position.

            To that end, Adobe continues to improve its market share, and we, the vidiots, get more tools in the box - all unified by this common manufacturer. There seems to be no reason that the developers who chat these pages cannot, even if not formally, make this connection and help all of us who need these and many more add-ins.

            [My example sites the integration of Serious Magic, and 2 of their products.]

              The following Xbasic script shows one way in which the Xml could be generated from data that had been added to an array:

              Code:
              dim c as p
              c.caption = "Monthly Unit Sales"
              c.xAxisName = "Month"
              c.yAxisName = "Units"
              c.showValues = "0"
              c.decimals = "0"
              c.formatNumberScale = "0"

              dim p[0] as p
              p[].label = "Jan"
              p[..].value = "462"

              p[].label = "Feb"
              p[..].value = "857"

              p[].label = "Mar"
              p[..].value = "671"

              dim count as n
              count = p.size()
              dim txt as c = ""

                Re: FusionCharts Suite Compatibility ??????

                Search for "XML" in Code Archive to find a couple scripts for creating XML output. The ones I authored show the complete method for creating the proper structure. Getting data out in XML format is no harder than creating an export to a text file.

                The more difficult part with the charts is to create the additional data for colors and whatever else it needs. Even that is not difficult, but I would want to modularize it so I did not have to recreate those background pieces each time I wanted a new chart.

                    Nice Steve,
                    Very similar but yet a different approach that I was taking with Fusion Charts. I found you can use the Alpha Web Browser from the help http://support.alphasoftware.com/alp...ser_Window.htm
                    along with the IE activex Web Browser that most users will have as well . Just a matter of using their templates and variables for the data really.
