Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    long documents

I have to create letters that filled with fields and are 20 pages give or take. I noticed that in the letter in Alpha Five it stops at 22" and I am wondering if there is a way to make it about ten times that long.

Appreciate any help on making them longer.

    Thanks.

    Re: long documents

I'd probably not create a document that was 220" long even if I could. I'd create 22 1 page documents and put them together the way I need them. Just a thought... don't really know what you need to do.

Even though the Page tab of the Letter Property lets you set any number, it seems the length of the page is always 22.5".

      Bruce --

You may be able to create your 22 page document by inserting a rich text object on the letter for each page. You can make the object the width of your letter, but make the height of the object small, and scroll within the object so that it takes up the full page. You can force page breaks between each rich text object. We have a 7 page personalized lease which prints just fine with 8 point Tahoma text from top to bottom on every page.

        Thank you Dick.

Works perfectly so far - am half way through one of the long documents.

I am having to do the copy and paste like this and am wondering if there is a shorter way.
          Here is my procedure:
          Copy one paragraph from doc.
Paste it into upper right hand corner.
          Copy this paste.
Paste it into rich text field.

Is there a way to bring over many paragraphs at the same time?
btw - if this is not possible this is a lot easier than before and so many kudos to you for this.

I've looked all over on the page tab in the letter properties amd see no option for number of pages.

            Am I missing something?

            Thanks

              Bruce --

As I recall, this was a problem for me also. If I remember correctly, I copied (and then pasted) larger portions of the original document -- several pages at once. I believe I then cut portions from one rich text object and pasted into the next. This eliminates one of your cut/paste steps, and the number of cut/pastes should be reduced to approximately the number of pages you have. I think I limited each object to a page because this enabled me to control the page breaks, which go outside the rich text objects.

I have attempted to attach a screen sample of the lease in design mode.

                Re: long documents

This works good if you can use seperate pages like you can with most personal lease doc's. When you have to print a contract that is 33" long and continous, it does not work.

It was suggested to me to print to a text document and then I can print this on a dot matrix printer. I have not attempted this so far, but it makes sense.

I guess it depends on what you need to do.

                  Thank you for idea.
I am going to try a few different ways.

One idea is to put in all paragraphs in separate fields as I have to number them anyway. The only thing is making the formatting look like it came from Microsoft word so it is a very professional looking documents.
