Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

        Re: A5/FusionCharts Genie is Ready!

Well (plug follows) the AlphaToGo Web Template, upon which the Cart is based has 45 customers and is featured here: http://wt.alphatogohost.com/

I've been reluctant to package up the cart because it needs soo much more to be a real industry strength shopping cart - promo setup, coupons, shipment tracking, etc. www.zencart.com is my model.

It does have a flawless integration with PayPal, the fancy kind that breaks out each item in the PayPal and uses their IPN - Instant Payment Notification to 'tell' my website in the background that the transaction went through, at which point I do all my transaction processing. That is a much better method than the simple BuyNow button options they provide since it does not depend on the user actually coming back to the website.

Going on now - PayPal is actually more complex than it looks. This IPN happens in the background like I said. PayPal does not consider the transaction complete until MY WEBSITE sends back a secret handshake proving I am who I say, and only then does PayPal complete the transaction. But this happens long after the buyer is gone (OK, like 2 seconds after they are gone.) By time the user gets back to my website, I have processed the transaction, updated their MyAccount information with the order and sent out confirmation emails to the buyer and the seller, and BCC to me if necessary.

I've done four or five different Payment Gateway scenerios with different gateway companies. PayPal is actually the hardest.

            Re: A5/FusionCharts Genie is Ready!

            Steve,

I've downloaded your FusionCharts genie but am having some trouble installing it. I've extracted the files to a folder but it seems some are missing. In your video clip for Installing the genie, the extracted files include; the database files and then 3 folders 'Charts', 'Fusion.WebProjects' and 'JavaScript' (see attached screenshot taken from your video). However when I extract the files from your genie zip file, I only get the database files (see 2nd screenshot)? Any ideas what is wrong? It's difficult to follow the rest of the instructions until this is clear.

Could you please email me if it's something I've done wrong,

            Cheers,

            Michael

For whatever reason, a couple people got a download of a zip file that didn't have the web pages. You, and anyone else who didn't get the full package can download the package again; I've installed a new .zip file for you.

Let me put in a vote for a rev that is tested with SQL Server.

That will bring us a Very Big step forward in the types of apps we can do with AAS 10.

Bill Griffin (aka Super Beta Tester) has pointed out that you can use the A5/FusionCharts genie against any table in A5. That includes Active Link tables. I've done it too, and it works seamlessly.

                      Hi Steve,

I have been looking at the Genie Videos to night and everything looks find and dandy.

I work in a school and 1 application I am hoping to use it for is to drag data (Attendance\Assessment etc) from the mssql MIS system and display it on the Digital signage system to get some competition going amongst the different year groups. Is it possible to setup a chart that links to the data and whenever that data changes the graph will show this or are updates manual.

                      Thanks

                      Chris

I don't know what the "digital signage system" is, but,

Is it possible to setup a chart that links to the data and whenever that data changes the graph
Yes. Haven't done it, but I'm positive it can be done.

You're combining drag & drop and FusionCharts! Cool. If'n I can find time I'll make up a model.

                          Hi Steve.

The digital signage system are the big tellies that you see in malls and worplaces with information on them.

I would guess it is just a case of refreshing the webpage or flicking through a series of webpages that refresh the data when it reloads.

                          Thanks for the reply

                          Chris

PS Thanks for putting the time in you do your vidoes are excellent and I find them very helpful. I had a play with just the fusion charts last nights and found that they are quite static for the sql stuff so what you have done with Alpah and Fusion is fantastic for people like me.

Does this genie work with the free version of fusion charts?
I am a little confused by these messages, would I be able to use an AlphaDAO connection or would I have to make an Active Link connection?

                              Re: A5/FusionCharts Genie is Ready!

The A5/FusionCharts Genie comes with all the free charts, plus the trial version of the Version 3 Charts and the trial version of the Widgets. The only difference between the trial and non-trial versions are that the trial versions have a watermark on them (you'll see it in most of my videos).

The Genie does not support every chart. A list of what's supported is on my web site. More coming later, I hope.

The Genie was originally designed to work with native .dbfs or active link tables.

You can still use the Genie to design the charts for AlphaDAO connections, but you'll need to first "dummy" the data in, say, an active link table, then write yourself just a bit of code to convert to a connection string. Videos 22 and 23 on my site show you how to do that.

For answers to more questions, better understanding, etc., see the A5/FusionCharts Web Site.
