Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    A5/FusionCharts Genie is Ready!

    Announcing the A5/FusionCharts Genie
Codeless FusionCharts for your Alpha Five Database
    From Steve Workings

I am proud to announce that the A5/FusionCharts Genie is ready for purchase.

If you've wanted to put charts on your Alpha Five web pages or forms, but were stopped with all the coding involved, then this Genie is for you.

The A5/FusionCharts Genie helps Alpha Five users create FusionCharts that can be integrated with Alpha Five databases. The primary method of integration is the production of code for use in .A5W pages, which can then be displayed in a web application and on desktop forms.

Codeless FusionCharts for your Alpha Five database!

Here is the A5/FusionCharts Web Page where you'll find a full description, plenty of helpful videos and more.

The Genie is for sale for $69.00 at the IADN Store. You have unlimited use of the Genie, across as many databases, websites or other Alpha Five applications you have.

This has been tested with A5 versions 9 and 10. It should also work with version 8. Many of the techniques for display demonstrated in the videos use version 10 features.

Right now the Genie just supports native .dbfs. I'd like to add support for other database types later.

            Chad,

I just setup an active link table to a Mysql db and all seemed to work just fine. Not sure if there any gotchas involved with SQl, but putting the data from an active (or passive) link table works great.

              Re: A5/FusionCharts Genie is Ready!

Bill's right! Something I didn't know. It's really the facility that A5 has provided, but it all works just fine. I never thought to try it.

I set up an Active Link table with the NorthWinds ProductsInStock table, and created a chart with the Genie againsta few of its fields.

              The result is attached here.

I think that there may be some limits (at least at this time) about specifying chart values with expressions in the Genie when you're drawing on Active Link tables, but with a bit of design consideration, this shouldn't be a huge deal.

I just went to the site, and it looks OK to me -at least at this moment.

Chad, the order went through fine. The only thing that failed was the very final confirmation page, conflicting data type threw an errror. And I was at a conference today and caught it when I came back. The big problem with any purchase system is ensuring you get the confirmation. My confirmation screen did not work but the order went through and it DID send you a confirmation email including the download links and license numbers (I get a BCC).

Well Steve what can I say but good on you, like Mauricio (Calender) you have entered the new world of Alpha Apps. V10 as shown to us at the conference was an indicator of things to come.

This is a fantastic effort, not just the product - but the entire delivery and support.

A professional and absolutely first all round.

Well - done. A proud moment in Alpha Development.

Hi Steve you are correct the email was sent. It just hit my junk mail which sits in a quarantine area until I sign into that area and release it and when I didn't see either the email or a confirmation I figured it was just a little glitch.

Thanks again for the quick response from your team at IADN.

Thank you Peter. One point though to keep things honest - I wrote the shopping cart featured on the IADN website in Feb 09 for my personal AlphaToGo website, and just copied it to the IADN project, and its all in V9 so far.
