Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    A5/FusionCharts Genie is Ready!

    Announcing the A5/FusionCharts Genie
Codeless FusionCharts for your Alpha Five Database
    From Steve Workings

I am proud to announce that the A5/FusionCharts Genie is ready for purchase.

If you've wanted to put charts on your Alpha Five web pages or forms, but were stopped with all the coding involved, then this Genie is for you.

The A5/FusionCharts Genie helps Alpha Five users create FusionCharts that can be integrated with Alpha Five databases. The primary method of integration is the production of code for use in .A5W pages, which can then be displayed in a web application and on desktop forms.

Codeless FusionCharts for your Alpha Five database!

Here is the A5/FusionCharts Web Page where you'll find a full description, plenty of helpful videos and more.

The Genie is for sale for $69.00 at the IADN Store. You have unlimited use of the Genie, across as many databases, websites or other Alpha Five applications you have.

This has been tested with A5 versions 9 and 10. It should also work with version 8. Many of the techniques for display demonstrated in the videos use version 10 features.

        Re: A5/FusionCharts Genie is Ready!

Thank you both. I'm working on a version 1.01 that will be free to all existing users. It'll make it yet easier and more friendly to use than it already is.

Something like this makes such a difference in the appearance of your apps. I'm just handing one of my customers a few charts on their system just because it's so easy and makes such an impact.

        And... show us your charts!

It was such a pleasure working with you Steve as a beta tester.

Although my input was rather modest to say the least, what you have produced is one of the best addons to Alpha applications since the Calendar which I helped design.

I'm sure this Graph Genie will lead onto bigger and greater things.

I'm looking forward to the Fusion Widgets Genie.

              Steve,

What FusionCharts license do we need to distribute charts in our applications?

              Regards,

Take a look at the link below.

Looks like Fusioncharts is betting on FileMaker rather than Alpha Five.

                      Bob,

It is my understanding that Alpha is working on special pricing for Alpha users as well.

The 29.00 price you quoted is not a developer license, but a single user license good for one seat of Filemaker (see attached). The Filemaker developer price is 1499.00.

They offer nice discounts for Filemaker users, hopefully Alpha can cut a deal with them as well.

Well, yeah. FM claims 10 million users. Alpha, in the past, has sometimes claimed 1 million users. Both sides may be exaggerating their numbers a little. But if we take the 10:1 ratio at face value, not to mention FM's well know name brand, it would make sense for Fusion to team up w. FM, marketing wise. Yeah, $29 + FM purchase costs, which can easily exceed the price of Alpha. Fortunately, Steve Workings has come out with an easy to use Alpha Fusion Genie to help Alpha users get the same functionality. All told, the combined price on the A5 side is way cheaper than the FM combined price. The grass always looks greener in the other guys yard - until you purchase it!

                            Bill,

You are correct. Still for a single user 29.00 is an attractive price.

I just wish Alpha would similarly partner with a vendor for a hierarchical grid display that could be used on the desktop.

Please take a look at the attachment, again for FileMaker. Is there anyway anyone can think of to replicate this in Alpha Five?

This is a combination of a tree and a browse. Note that the tree is built with parent/child relationships and that multiple columns can be displayed.

I have sat on the sidelines with Alpha Five for six months after reporting several bugs with Codejock and other controls. I figured that Alpha wasn't going to devote anymore resources to V9 and to wait out V10.

I've ordered a copy of V10, but I have a nagging concern that with the exeption of form headers/footers, there are few improvements which actually improve the way users interact with desktop forms.

But I don't want to prejudge and would love to be pleasantly surprised.
