    Default Stop Child Jumping?

Dont anyone say get a big stick.

I have child records displayed on a form as fields, not a browse. When I make a change to any child record, except the last one, when I click save, the display jumps to the last record.

As I want the user to remain on the same record, how do I prevent this jump from happening?

Or, is there a method that will make the jump go back to the record that was just changed?

Have you tried to add to to save to do a query based on the view so at the end you are still there

    Hi Mark,

No, I have not tried that. How do you do "add to to save to do a query based on the view"?

I am presuming the save button has a save action attached, you could aadd the query to the next line to make sure you are still on the record. If the form has the Parent ID and the Child ID on it, this could be used for the query.

    When you click save

Step 1 set two variables based on the form
    Step 2 save
Step 3 run query to find based on the variables

    Hi Mark,

I appreciate your suggestions but am still a little lost on how to implement.

I use AS, I can get the values of fields onto variables, I now get lost with the next bit of setting up and running the query. Please advise.

    Hi Keith,

Probably a little off with my answer. I am thinking of a creating a query operation and running that when you do the save process.

A little perplexed however, I tried to duplicate what you are asking and I do not get the same problem. Save simply stays on that record with that child.

How do you get to your view? Do you do a filter so that the exact child record is on display with the parent?

... or a sample app for us to play with? Cos only the UK and Australia are on-line. America's still asleep.

For a table, there is the option to "follow changes". I'm using V8 and it doesn't seem to work. It wasn't called that in V4.5 which I came from a couple of years ago and can't remember what it was called. Don't know if this helps.

    Keith,

You lost me. Is this a 1:M? If so, how do you get the particular child that you want to display on a form w/o a browse? Are you using a subform for the child?

the follow changes option is also available in form view. I guess I don't understand the difference between fields on a form and fields in a browse. Sorry if I'm wasting your time.

    Keith,

Here is a pic I just used in another thread. Maybe it will help you. I also may not be understanding what you are trying to do.

It has fields on this part of the form for trades and they change depending which record I click in the browse underneath. This is not using tabs!

    Hi Peter,

Yes this a 1:M child table with only one child record being displayed in a sub-form.

I do have a browse in the sub form with a single id field, just so I can see which child record I'm on.

Please see screen shot. Fields in red box is the sub form showing the child record.

Ok. I thought maybe you didn't have a browse and that might explain the jumping. I used to have a similar problem (jump to the 1st record). My workaround was to code the child save w. xbasic: I would get the child ID, save the record, and then do a fetch_find() using the ID# to get the record and then a resynch or refresh or something to make it appear. But I never was able to get rid of the screen flash when it did the jump.

    Hello Keith,

I believe there is a similarity with an issue I had earlier this year.
    Please check this thread: http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...ad.php?t=80451
    Hope that helps.
