Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    V10 Branding

I'm currently using V9. Alpha offers(ed) a separate branding utility for something like $100 that was designed to allow developers to eliminate/replace references to A5 in a completed application, like for dialog boxes and error message windows, etc. I've never used or seen the V9 branding utility so I can't speak to its specifics. However I am wondering what if anything Alpha is providing with V10 to address the same issue. Is branding capability built in or provided via an add-on utility?

Any one know if this was or is built in to V10 or V10.5? Or if it is available?

      Re: V10 Branding

You can change the icons and menus with a touch of code to "hide" Alpha branding from the user without purchasing anything...... (There may even be an action script for this.) Also, the unlimited runtime provides this functionality too....

It's all about the "framework." (I suppose an "a5-induced" hard drive crash is now in order?)

        Hi Robert,

The code there in your link does not do what Douglas and Larry are asking about. This is where, for example, you have in field rules Validation. Alpha will display the dialog with the text but the Title of the dialog says Alpha. See attachment.

I'm not sure if this is still available from the Alpha shop but you could try [email protected].

          Hi Keith;

I misunderstood. ~How about the unlimited runtime though? I haven't worked with it yet, but according to this link, it looks like it can do what Douglas wants: http://support.alphasoftware.com/Alp...me_License.htm

            Robert,

Seen that link, that still does not answer what Douglas asked about. He is asking about Branding Utility which is an addon like Netmailer.

I remember reading something about the Branding Utility. I had assumed it's no longer available (since the desktop runtime became "unlimited.") But now I'm confused....

I though the unlimited runtime has this/these abilities too?!?

Guess what happened to the little boy who assumed it was safe to cross the road?

I did suggest contacting the Alpha sales office.

Yeah, but I'm a big ol' boy.... Even so, you're right. Last time I made an assumption re. Alpha, I took the advice of my recent/previous "Sales Rep." John B. (there are/were some good & honest ones, for instance Glen & Andrew) Anyways, John's persuasive recommendation (which closed a $1300 sale 6+ months early) ultimately resulted in my recent for "sale post" (in the general section of this forum) being deleted without any any explanation. ~ You may even be aware of what I'm referring to, if so there's more to it that that. (I haven't contacted Richard yet, but I will, as it's more a matter of principal/integrity than $.)

Irrespective, having a current subscription which is supposed to include "everything Alpha"..... One would expect subscribers would not only know about a "Branding Utility", but also have the download link (along with registration codes) sitting in their "inbox." Enough said......
My intentions were to eventually become a "Certified Alphaholic." Now I'm thinking I've got a better chance of being labeled as a "Certifiable Fool."

PS: Sorry Keith, ~ In no way did I direct this reply toward you. I'm merely venting frustration. (Plus, I'm tired of everyone relentlessly defending the companies' actions and policies here within the forums. If people don't speak up, a company can't get a "true picture" of "itself", and how to correct problems/grow.) ~I honestly don't think Alpha is presently being managed as well as it should be/could be. For starters, there is way too much confusion at the sales level. (The company is obviously in the process of "re-aligning" itself for reasons I can only imagine.) At least that's the way it appears [to me] from the outside..... ~ Irrespective, I always enjoy your posts, and try to learn from them.

                  ~Robert

I'm Larry's partner and we posted after a quick search didn't find anything. I have found that the Branding Utility will work on V10 it is a V9 product still costs 199.00. IMHO this should have been built into V10

I have a branding utility and I repeatedly followed the instructions but i cant seem to make it work, I still see Alpha Five titles on built in dialog boxes. Anyone using this utility? Please do share how you made it worked. Thanks very much!
