Default How Can I do This?

    Hi all,

Before I start my DB i want to know how I would go about this:

I'm building a passenger manifest system for a small airline.

Simply, I will have a table that contains each sector (A-B, B-C) etc. Clicking on the sector brings up the passengers for that sector. That part is quite easy.

However I'd like some summaries to show how many people are on the aircraft as it leaves each location. EG

The aircraft flies route A - B - C - D - E. Pax can hop on at any point and disembark at any point. So, as it leaves D, the summary would have to include A-E, B-E, C-E, D-E passengers.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

For the A-E passengers wouldn't you record 4 records, one for each "leg" of the trip?

For the B-E passengers wouldn't you record 3?

    ...

For the D-E passengers wouldn't you record a single record?

    ...

I think you should be recording legs, not departure/destination combinations.

To get the D-E passsengers you'd simply display the passengers who have a record for that "leg", regardless of where they boarded.

    Nathan,
I agree with Tom. Each leg represents a trip, whether complete or not.

For interest, look at this thread. Go to post #43 where I posted an example for someone working on an airline application. You might be able to garner something for your use.

    Hi Mike,

The thread you refer to was one of mine :) You were very helpful but it was (and still is) beyond my capability. I have since decided to skip the seat allocations and focus on a simple passenger manifest.

I went away and started learning PHP, but have returned to Alpha as it seems to be more suitable.

    My basic requirements are:

    • Create a flight, create sectors for flight, add passengers to sectors
    • Display count of passengers departing each location on route
    • The visual side is very important, was hoping to contain everything on one form

Not sure if its even possible but the dynamic tree looks good, any way it could display the flights, then drill down to the sectors for each flight? Click the sector to show the manifest?

Sorry for all the questions. I can create this in Filemaker but the layout / display options in A5 seem much better, and its still new to me.

I have attached my work in progress.

This is my first 'real' attempt at anything in A5, so very rough.

You can see the functionailty I'm looking for. Clicking a sector row in the main form, opens the list of passengers in the manifest form. It's not working though as I can't work out how to get it working.

Comments appreciated on how I can go about this.

    Cheers
