Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Is there any special requirement for ajax to run

I originally thought this was a problem moving from V9 to V10. But

I created a new application starting in V10, all grid components are AJAX enabled by default, so all my pages give me " error on Page" no matter what I try to do, like search, filter, submit, you name it.
I tested all components in the Live Preview, they all work fine.

The "error on page" shows up after publishing and viewing in the browser.

Once I UNCHECK enable Ajax in the property of the Grid, republish, they all work fine in the browser....

    Is there an explanation?
    Thanks

Re: Is there any special requirement for ajax to run

The problems I encountered occurred with computers running IE 6 or earlier. AJAX will not work properly in IE6, so your users must be running IE 7 or 8. (I don't think there is anything newer yet.)

And I would assume having the latest version of Java would be a help, but others may have additional information.

I'm running IE 7, and I always keep JAVA up-to-date on the server.

Oh, that being the case, I don't know what the problem is.

Maybe someone else can chime in.

I'm using the latest build 3501, at least up to now, I just saw a newer patch coming up.

When you say compile, do you mean publish ?
Yes I save and publish it every time, I even deleted any old copy of the grid.

Re: Is there any special requirement for ajax to run

I've seen numerous people mention Java.

Alpha isn't using Java at all!

Alpha uses Javascript, which is supported by all of the modern browsers.

Javascrpt is not related to Java in any way other than the first four letters.

When Netscape developed the scripting language that became known as Javascript, Sun Microsystems Java language was being hailed as the next big thing and Netscape figured they would get a lot of PR mileage out of the name Javascript.

So. ... The requirement for running an Alpha Five web app is that the browser must support Javascript and that Javascript must be enabled on the browser. This requirement is common for ALL Web 2.0 apps.

If a user can't run an Alpha app, ask them to go to Google maps and see what happens. If Javascrit is turned off in their browser then Google maps isn't going to be able to do any of the cool Ajax callbacks that they use to zoom and pan around the map without doing a full page refresh every time.

What wealth of information this board is.

Bob I never knew that. Like a lot of people, I thought Javascript was derived from Java, and that having Jave up-to-date on one's computer was essesential to javascript applications running smoothly.

                Thanks for the clarification.

                  Anis

I get the same error on one of my pages, but everything works as it should so I tend to ignore it for the time being. If I find out what is causing it I will let you know.
