Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Display Alternate Text in Grid Field

Ok, This is what I am trying to do.

I have a grid(grid1) that has a linked grid(grid2). They are linked by an ID field that is unique to the table in grid1.
What I want to do is have the grid2 field that has the grid1 unique ID displayed to have an alternate field from grid1 table displayed Like "Grid1_Field2" instead of the grid1ID

Grid 1 Fields from table 1

    Grid1ID
    Grid1_Field2
    Grid1_Field3

Grid 2 Fields from table 2

    Grid2ID
    Grid1ID
    Grid2_Field3
    Grid2_Field4

I've had to read this a number of times, but I think what you are asking is to see data from table1 in grid2.

Since there is a one to many link from grid1 to grid2, is there a one to one link from grid2 to grid1? Usually there is.

In that case, I'd use a view for grid2 that has table 2 as the primary table and table1 linked via the id. Then you can get all of the data from table1 in grid2.

Re: Display Alternate Text in Grid Field

So I did what you said and It worked. I had to read up on "view" tables on a grid.

This is going to be long so hold on tight. My alpha lingo is not quite up to speed.

I supose that I should have said this to start with but... I actually have three grids with three seperate tables, one of the tables being the parent and the two other beign the child. So that means that I have three grids, with one of them being attached to the parent and the other two visable or called thru the row expander option. I have the row expander set to tabs and linked the unique ID's.

When I use the view tables method on the two child grids, I get an error saying that the "parent grid is busy" when I try to view the child grids thru the parent grid.

I will try to take a step back and see if i am making this harder than it needs to be.

Ok so I got it. What I was doing was doing was making the unique field in grid 2 a label instead of a text box. This was important because when I was adding a record to grid 2 it was not allowing grid 1 to input the unique ID into grid 2's field because it was a label field not a text box field. Rookie mistake I guess.
