Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    report export to Excel

Is there a simple way to add an icon to the "Print Preview" toolbar to export to Excel? Thanks

    Re: report export to Excel

    Becky,
The default toolbar already has several saveas and email as choices including one for Excel....click on the saveas icon at the menu/toolbar and a dropdown appears showing all of them--the last one chosen will then become default and shows its icon on the bar.

      Mike,

She has ver 7, I have ver 8 and that's not an option on my preview. All the others are there but not Excel.

Save Reports as Excel Files appears in the What's New In Version 9.
        There can be only one.

          Re: report export to Excel

Right - I have the option to export to other applications, but not Excel. I use a custom toolbar in the program, and I can add an icon to exprt to Excel there, but in Print Preview for my reports a default toolbar comes up and I don't have that option. I can't find anywhere that I can edit it.

            Re: report export to Excel

Becky, Go to your report (in design mode) click on Properties and you will see the option to add a menu or a toolbar. I haven't tried it but you may be able to create a toolbar for your report with the Excel report & Icon. Of course this might overwrite the toolbar that comes with the report. Haven't tried it yet but will, just for the fun of it. You have to save the report before the toolbar or menu appears on your preview.

btw, we could upgrade to 9 or better.

              Jerry,
I remember now about Excel not appearing until later--had forgotten. Even though Excel does not appear as a choice or in the help I know that in v8 you can use report.saveas() with excel as an argument and it will work....don't know about v7.

                Re: report export to Excel

Mike, is the attached "Save As" from a print review what you are talking about. If so then Excel is not their either. I have no reasons to export or print to Excel, but Becky does. Maybe you or someone could point her in the right direction to accomplish this. My knowledge in xbasic is "null". If I can't do what I want using action scripting then that's when I ask you CA's for some help.

                Thanks

                  Re: report export to Excel

The saveas I referred to was the xbasic.... http://support.alphasoftware.com/alp..._.SAVEAS().htm

You can modify the system toolbar to have your own button and use the xbasic code to save or send as an excel--for sure in v8...But definitely not in v7.

                  Quoting Jerry Brightbill:
The ability to save a report as xls was added to Alpha Five Version 8, but not shown as an option. It is shown as an option in Version 9. However, if you uses saveas() to create a report in V8, you can use xls in place of pdf and the report output will be generated as an Excel file. Version 7 does not support save to xls.
