Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Netmailer

I can't imagine (well, maybe I can!) that something that costs $495 can't be used with the runtime
that is exactly what i said to alpha, but no reply. my argument is- as we will usually distribute runtime to users, unless we buy the runtime edition, only we as the developer can use the features.

i have tried to use netmailer on some of the runtimes in my own firm and it will not work. only my machine could send the emails campaigns.

i recently bought another copy of v9 which i installed on a pc that wasnt being used, along with netmailer pro. if a user wants to send an email campaign, they log on to this machine. a pain, but it works.

      OK Guys,

      Here is one big disappointment.

This is the reply I have just received from Alpha Software Inc.
Netmailer Pro ONLY works in the Full Version of Alpha.
You will need Netmailer for Runtime for a runtime application

        Re: Netmailer

Seems to me the regular price on the Alpha website is $199 for developer version and between $399 and $499 for the runtime----so I don't know where the disparity is between this thread and what is on Alpha's store...

It seems clear enough on their website but have a feeling what has happened is people bought from a promotion which did not indicate that the runtime was a separate entity like the Alpha Store does.

          Re: Netmailer

          Mike,
I believe you are looking at the wrong Netmailer on the website. If you scroll down close to the bottom you will fine the Netmailer Pro listed for $499.

Below pasted is a portion of the email for upgrade for v. 10
We're making it easy for you to come onboard with Alpha Five Version 10. For the next four days only - we're offering you upgrade pricing (vs full pricing) as well as a $75 coupon and a copy of Netmailer Pro at no charge with any purchase below. You do not need a previous version of Alpha Five installed to take advantage of this offer, but this offer is only for a limited time.
          Offer Ends Monday, November 16th

          Use this coupon code: VXUPG

Get a FREE copy of Netmailer Pro and Save $75 (prices below reflect discount).
Under this special Alpha Five Version 10 offer which you have been selected to receive you will get NetMailer Pro for Version 10 (Normally $495) included Free when you move up to Alpha Five v10. Netmailer Pro is included with all the offers below.

For those of you who never used Netmailer Pro before - it is a customizable broadcast email package that integrates with Alpha Five.
SEE A VIDEO OF NETMAILER - this 3 minute video was recently produced and shows Netmailer being used with Alpha Five Version 10.

Link for Netmailer Pro http://www.ajaxvideotutorials.com/vi...Netmailer_Pro/ tells how it can be used in application design. If you are developing applications you are going to distribe them. I think that this is a case of bait and switch as the promotion leads you to believe that you have a runtime included in the package.

I would not have bought the upgrade (because of price) but thought the FREE $499.00 value and a $75.00 discount was a good deal. I feel a little taken advantage of with this promotion. I quess I didn't ask for the real pony.

            Hi Jim,

You are correct, it is horses for courses.

When you started this thread you did not mention the problem you were having was to do with Runtime. You see how easy it is to make assumptions.

I did not realise that the top selling priced product did not carry all the features of the lesser priced versions. I too made the same wrong assumption.

The best way to look at this now is that you have got Netmailer Pro for free and can use this to develop with.

Now if your customer wants Netmailer then that is an extra for which you charge them. The choice you now have is do you charge them the full price or split it amongst your other customers that can now have this extra facility.

              Re: Netmailer

Wow--as I read it fairly carefully due to this thread I still managed to fall into the same faulty conclusion you have. Very poorly written and organized by Alpha at the very least!!! Not only do they show the prior Pro version at $199 followed by the corresponding runtime at $499, but then they add even more confusion by saying "...includes all Netmailer features..." which to me means, as Alpha has said in many of their other ad campaigns, that it includes everything.

Makes me now wonder if when Alpha states for the version just prior to the aforementioned called Netmailer for Alpha Five Runtime that it has the "...Same features as the Netmailer standard edition..." that can you use it for development at all--to me it implies that you can....but now would be hesitant to assume that.

Just add it to the list of ambiguities we have run up against----hopefully Alpha will rectify this mess.

Is there a place you can see the "help" for all the a5_netmailer functions? I can only find a couple in the "alpha help", so i'm not sure how to use some of them like netmailer_prompt(), or toolbar(), menu(), or Maint()..

I'd like to give the user a form with buttons, and i can see the Netmailer_genie, that i can use to "create", and i can see the ar_run_netmailer() where i can give them a list to "run".. but i don't see an "edit" function... if i use the netmailer_start(), it gives me all of the options in one menu, but i am getting errors when i use the a5_netmailer_start(). when i click on the edit i get a long error code:

jobs=dictionary.external_record_content_get("ddname,"name","name","type = Error Loading C:\P3\.ddd: The system cannot find the file specified..

If i say ok, it takes me to the choose Job box and i can select the table from there, and it works... but i can't figure out why the error? should i have more after start()?

i am really close to having what i need, but just can't find the place to read on all the functions you can use for netmailer to create buttons for a "user" that will get confused on a control panel.

Hope this makes sense.. if not you can call me direct at 801-458-1606 and i can explain better.
