Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Update Button on Grid

    Hi everyone here is a little thing that i would like to add to a grid component which to me is a massive time saver. I have attached a image to explain what i would like to do. I believe this one is for the top of the class!

    Re: Update Button on Grid

    Hi

    I am not sure if this is exactly what you need...I adopted something I used for one of my projects. I use a solution with an input field and a button, both in the grid toolbar. Pressing the button in the toolbar will

    a. set the "Clearing" fields in the grid with the value of the input field in the toolbar, but only for currently visible records in the grid. If no record is shown as a result of a search criteria etc. , no values are set.

    b. set the grid fields "dirty"

    Records can be updated individually. I also added a submit button to the toolbar so you can commit all records.

    I attached a gif and a pdf for instructions.

    Have fun

      Thanks Wolfgang this is exactly what I am trying to do!

      Is there any chance you can upload the example component that is in your pdf and image and I can adapt to my table.

      Thanks again for the help.

        sure, here you go. I used the export function. You should be able to import the zip as is.

          Works awesome!
          I just have to convert it to a MYSQL table thanks again.
          I did a quick little video for all to see this in action, very basic table and info a little ruff around the edges but you will all get the point.

            Re: Update Button on Grid

            Cool video. Well done. Glad it worked out for you.

            Just one remark to the toolbar button js code. Since in this example the overall js is rather simple, you could have put all the js code directly in the onclick() event of that button.

            However, since I normally do more complex things such as opening linked grids in modal windows etc. I let Alpha generate the action script code in a row based button, I hide the button and I delegate the onclick() from the toolbar to the (hidden) row based button.

            regards

                Wolfgang;

                I set this up on my component, I do need some help in some modification if you don't mind.

                The field clearing is a field that exists in the database and has a number already, how do I set this to set clearing for only those records that are displayed in the grid and have a 0 (zero) in that field.
                Not change anything else, keep all other data in the clearing field intact.

                Is that possible ?

                Thanks

                  Re: Update Button on Grid

                  you could just filter the grid to only show items with a zero.

                    Re: Update Button on Grid

                    Hi

                    Follow Chad's advice or modify the code in the button onclick() to check for zero:

                    Code:
                    var rowcount={Grid.Object}._rowsInGrid;
                    for(row = 1; row <= rowcount; row++)
                    {
                    	if ({grid.Object}._getValue('G','CLEARING',row) ==0)
                    	{
                    		{grid.Object}._setValue('G','CLEARING',row,$('{Grid.ComponentName}.CLEARING_INPUT').value);
                    	};
                    };
                    regards

                      Re: Update Button on Grid

                      Thank you Chad, Wolfgang.
                      I understand filtering the Grid is one way of doing this, but I wanted to have this control becuase we have many accounts, and the rate (clearing) changes every month, so this way I can have the use filter for the account only and if there are records with missing rates he can fill in those records.

                      It not easy to know the rate for each account because it changes all the time. otherwise it would have been easy to filter the grid by account and zero rate.

                      I think this way will show accounts with rates charged and records missing the rate, so now the user sees the rate and able to add that rate to the missing records.

                      Thanks again for the help
