Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    send report by mail without opening the alpha five email client

    I would like to send a report by e-mail without opening the alpha five email client.

    Within action script I can select: report, archive layout, options, email as an attachment. Using this method I'm not able to select: don't open the alpha five e-mail client.

    Within action script I can also use: send an email message. Now I am able to select: don't open the alpha five e-mail client. Only now I don't know how to attach the report.

    Some assistance would be much appreciated.

    Only now I don't know how to attach the report
    The dialog for the send an e-mail message action script has a button and a field which allows you to specify attachments. If you want to have the attachments selected at the time the script is run you will have to convert it to xbasic and alter the parameters to refer to the attachment dynamically.

    The converted xbasic should look like

    EMAIL_SEND( "[email protected]","somesubject","somemessage","attachment(s)",.....)

    You just need to prepare the attachment name prior to this line and insert it.

    attchs = "D:\somedirectory\somereportname.pdf"
    EMAIL_SEND( "[email protected]","somesubject","somemessage",attchs,.....)
    There can be only one.

      Re: send report by mail without opening the alpha five email client

      If I understand correctly the report must be saved first before it can be sent as an attachment. You recently helped me with storing a report in it's own client directory. This means the attachment is constantly in a different client directory.

      I could make a separate (extra) directory where the email attachments are temporary stored but this doesn't feel like a clean solution and will maybe cause other problems? Is there an other way?

      I'm not sure if I missed something in your explanation but here is the script I'm using:

      topparent.commit()

      tbl = table.current()
      number = alltrim(tbl.adm_nr)
      client = alltrim(tbl.client)
      base_path = "G:\clienten\\"
      dir_name = number+" "+client
      dir_create_recurse(base_path+dir_name)

      record_number = current_record_number()
      query.filter = "recno() = " + record_number
      query.order = ""

      report.saveas("brief bezwaar 1", "PDF", query.filter, "",base_path+dir_name+"\\"+"bezwaarschrift"+".pdf")

      'Send an e- mail message using the Alpha Five e-mail clilent.
      if is_object(topparent.this) then
      form_name = topparent.name()+".this"
      else
      form_name = ""
      end if
      Dim message_type as c
      message_type = ""
      _to_var = a5_eval_expression("=Adressen_Client->Adr_Email",local_variables())
      param_to = _to_var
      subject_var = a5_eval_expression("=Adm_Memo->M_Bz_Ow_1",local_variables())
      param_subject = subject_var
      param_cc = ""
      param_bcc = ""
      message_text = <<%a%
      test message
      %a%
      param_message = message_text
      attachment_list = <<%a%
      G:\clienten\00001 mr. Smith\bezwaarschrift.pdf
      %a%
      param_attachments = alltrim(attachment_list)
      'Send the e-mail message directly - do not open the Alpha Five e-mail client
      send_result = email_send(param_to,param_subject,param_message,param_attachments,param_cc,param_bcc,.t.,message_type)
      if send_result = 1 then
      ui_msg_box("Notice","E-mail message sent.",UI_INFORMATION_SYMBOL)
      else
      ui_msg_box("Error","E-mail message was not sent.",UI_STOP_SYMBOL)
      end if

        Re: send report by mail without opening the alpha five email client

        Since you are using

        report.saveas("brief bezwaar 1", "PDF", query.filter, "",base_path+dir_name+"\\"+"bezwaarschrift"+".pdf")

        then later the attchments line can be

        attachment_list = base_path+dir_name+"\\"+"bezwaarschrift"+".pdf"
        There can be only one.
