Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Develop in two alpha five versions 9 and 10

Can an application developed in version 10 be safely run under version 9 or 8? just creating the install from each version?

The methods and functions used in the applications are available since version 8.

Another question, can a5 be in v10 and v9 be in same machine for development and runtime application creation?

I started to work in v10 but the app needs to run on windows XP and NT... what would be the best advise to do this?

    Jorge,
U are not going to want to "GO" backwards. V10 is "AJAX/Java" enabled the others are not. And 9 verses 8 are different as well. if you want to go from 8-9-10 with out added anything should be ok but not the other way.

Yes v10-9 can be on same machine for Dev.
I do not understand last question if using web dev then xp or nt it is up to the browser being used.

    Cheers.

Yes, latest Alpha Five version it the best option, but my customer will install the application in XP machines plus one PC with Windows NT. Since the PCs are connected to production equipment they wont change the operating system.

Does the program created with version 10 installer works in Windows NT? or what version should I use so the same basic program with no ajax/java and only basic field rules will work on NT?

        Jorge,

Unless I missed something should you be in the desktop forum?

You are using a browser with the web portion of v9 or v10 and it XP for the WAS is fine. So there is no problem.

Which is what is great about using the web stuff whether v9 or v10.

        Browser Based.....:)

Since when does V10 not work on NT? Am I missing something?? Is V10 Vista and win7 only??

Of course it would be nice if alpha posted the supported versions of windows as they used to.

Re: Develop in two alpha five versions 9 and 10

Just installed in my lap version 9 and 8 to try the application developed in version 10.

Its working fine in version 9 and 8 at least with development on vista 64, will try with runtime in XP and windows NT later, but looks like its going to work fine, if so, thats really good because some customers have production machines with old operating systems, some even windows 95/98...

              Jorge,

I have to be in the wrong forum, this is a desktop issue.

Cause if you dev in V10 with Ajax on it is not going to work in V9 and or especially V8.

Desktop as per your testing is ok, I would not know about that as we do not do desktop.
              Cheers
