Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Noob form Questions

    Hi,

I have a form based on a two field table.

The form has the fields and buttons for add, save, undo & delete record operations.

Is there a way to only allow adding a new record by pressing the add button and to only save the record by pressing the save button etc.

The form works at the moment but if i press enter after updating the second field it saves the record and moves to a new one and I'd like to disable this.

Sorry for the noob q's but I'm used to doing things manualy on unbound forms and can't seem to find a way to do this in Alpha5.

    Cheers

    Re: Noob form Questions

Karl, here's a tip for you. The message board will do an automatic search for you when you begin a new thread. It looks for threads that involve the terms you use in the "Subject" line of your post. They are then listed for you, automatically, at the bottom of your display (scroll down) when you submit your post. So, here's the tip. Use terms in your "Subject" line that identify the subject of your issue. You'll get a leg up on solving your problem. In the current thread, a Subject of "Noob form questions" doesn't give the message board software much to go on, and conceals (for the rest of us) the issue you're having or reporting.

Richard, I tried all of the Form Restriction settings and none of them stopped the form from going to the next record when pressing Enter past the last field.

An easy way to keep focus on the current record is to add a dummy field (based on form level variable) to the layout. Set it last in tab order. Use its OnArrive event to shift focus to the field that's first in tab order. When the user tabs through the fields on the form she hits the last object and is then redirected to the first object. Once this is working correctly, change the properties of the field to make it invisible.

i didnt see this is v10, although i would think it is the same as v9. i had this issue in v9 and i restricted continious enter and also navigate.

this worked for me, it also stopped tabbing from the last field from starting a new record.

How do you do this: OnArrive event to shift focus to the field that's first in tab order.

                  Re: Noob form Questions

#1 in tab order should automatically get focus - no coding. Is that not happening?

Yes but he is saying add a dummy field that shifts the focus back to the #1 in the tab order that is what I don't understand. What I am reading to me says to create a varible for the dummy field that shifts the focus back to the #1 in tab order. Is that not what it says to do?

I see. Use the last field's OnDepart event (or a dummy field OnArrive if you prefer): FieldName.activate()
