Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Additional I/C Custom Fields not included in refresh

I updated to QBE v10 with QODBC driver 10.00.00.265 and QRB 2009, Alpha Five v9, build 2193

I created an additional inventory item custom field. This new field is not showing up when I refresh the data. Originally it was called casting (Y/N). I deleted the punctuation (in case that tripped things up) so it now reads casting Y N.

I've refreshed all databases. Then I refreshed specifically the item and iteminventory databases. It still does not list the new custom field. The previous custom fields are there.

Any idea what Im doing wrong?

Should I delete the Item files (dbf, ddm, ddd, cdx, fpt, ddx) so it is forced to recreate the file? (hopefully that would not bugger up my other reports that use the Item database)

    Thanks
    Jim

Edit: Actually I do see customfields in the item table..... hmmm....

I'll forward a question to the dev team..

In the mean time, download the latest QODBC driver from QODBC.COM - I see 266 is out
Install it for a trial and QRB will use it under your QRB license.

What rev of QB are you on?

Re: Additional I/C Custom Fields not included in refresh

      We're using QuickBooks Enterprise v10.0.

I put a time a date in an item description field to check that it is refreshing properly. (it did)

I also created a new report to see if the new custom fields are available in the field list (I've been using the browse data function from the main menu).

The new custom fields are not listed. The original custom fields are there.

Is the select statement for the item table this?

        select * from item

or is it more like this?

select < a list of fields > from item

You can see this from Data - more options - edit passive-linked table definition and follow the bouncing ball to this screen....

          1. Special characters including spaces should be avoided. try Casting_Y_N

          2. Good question. QRB will make a set for each report. The table files are deleted and rebuilt with a refresh. The reports are kept in the set files, so the refresh doesn't delete reports.

Installed 266. QBE and QRB confirm 266 is there. Refreshed data. New custom fields still not there.

I edited the description to read Casting only. Still not there

Your image is what I see (see mine below). It includes the original custom fields but not the new one.

Re: Additional I/C Custom Fields not included in refresh

Since you said you created an "additional" custom field, I had this thought.

Prior to QB ES 10, QB supported 5 custom fields for items. Even though ES 10 now supports more than 5 custom fields, 5 is all the QB SDK allows access to at the moment. If you're trying to access more than 5 custom fields for an inventory item, it's not a QRB or even QODBC issue, and it might be a while before it works.

Two workarounds are 1) to pack more data into 1 custom field using delimiters, and then break it up or 2) export the custom field data to another file format (e.g., Excel or CSV) and then import into a QRB table.
