Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

        Re: Close modal-popup grid

        This thread is very interesting but I had an a5w page with a grid in a popup window. Closing that is a different ballgame. As Selwyn explained such an a5w page is running in its own IFrame (i.e. in its own namespace) so in order to close it you have to use window.parent['closeParentA5Window']('foo'); where 'foo' is the id you get when inspecting the popup dialog in for example chrome. In my screenshot example that would be A5dlg0

        I thought I'd share this

            Re: Close modal-popup grid

            Urghh.. I have a grid that opens an a5w page and my button will close as described above. My problem occurs when a subsequent a5w page opens where the A5dlgx increments. Because I don't know which button/a5w page the user will press, I don't have a way to determine A5dlgx. So my question is..How can one predetermine the A5dlgx window identifier so my button will close as intended or perhaps save it to a variable.

              Hinted by Selwyn & this help text in a dialog's afterdialogvalidate event help text:

              '-------------------Closing the Window in Which the Dialog is Hosted -------------------------
              'In many cases the Dialog will have been opened in a pop-up Ajax window and you will want code in this event handler to close the pop-up window.
              'Here is how you can do this:
              'a) In the action that opens the Dialog in a window, set the Window title to something like this: MyWindowTtitle<span id="mywindowid"></span>
              'b) In this event handler set e.javascript to:
              ' var ele = $('mywindowid');
              ' {dialog.object}.closeContainerWindow(ele);

                This doesn't work for me. What does work is your post #18 but the window id's changeAdlg2.JPGAdlg1.jpg

                The user presses one button completes the questoinnaire, closes, then goes to the next button and completes that questionnaire...and the id changes.

                  Re: Close modal-popup grid

                  I presume you replaced the placeholder {dialog.object} with (grid.object} ?

                  I'm still having a similar problem with a popup window called from an html link in the footer of a tabbed ui & I don't know what placeholder to use

                    Re: Close modal-popup grid

                    Yes, I chose instead to set a maximum limit of 10 questionnaires. The first grid listing the questionnaires is A5dlg0. So In my close button I placed:
                    Code:
                    if (_myQAGlobals.signpushed=_myQAGlobals.savepushed)
                    {
                    {grid.Object}.ajaxCallback('G','{Grid.RowNumber}:all','encMsg','','_getData=true');
                    window.parent['closeParentA5Window']('A5dlg1');
                    window.parent['closeParentA5Window']('A5dlg2');
                    window.parent['closeParentA5Window']('A5dlg3');
                    window.parent['closeParentA5Window']('A5dlg4');
                    window.parent['closeParentA5Window']('A5dlg5');
                    window.parent['closeParentA5Window']('A5dlg6');
                    window.parent['closeParentA5Window']('A5dlg7');
                    window.parent['closeParentA5Window']('A5dlg8');
                    window.parent['closeParentA5Window']('A5dlg9');
                    window.parent['closeParentA5Window']('A5dlg10');

                    }
                    else
                    {
                    alert('Please Sign and Save');
                    }
                    It works and I'm now moving forward! Thanks again as your post #18 is the answer for me..
