Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Dialog - Advanced Button problem

    Hi,

    I'm having trouble trying to get an onclick event to work as part of an advanced button on a dialog.

    I want to add a button to my page that when clicked creates a comma delimited file from a table.

    I have put the following code in the server event (onclick)but I'm getting the following error when I run it,

    Error in event handler code for OnClick event for 'Export': Property not found
    This error seems to occur when it sees export.type = 1 and the other export. declarations.

    I'm very new to Dialog components so I'm really not sure why I'm getting these property not found errors ??

    Code in onclick server event
    export_filename = session.session_folder + "test.txt"
    a_tbl = table.open("[PathAlias.ADB_Path]\APM_SUBMIT")
    query.order = ""
    query.filter = ""
    a_tbl.query_create()
    export.type = 1
    export.names = .T.
    export.file = export_filename
    export.options = ""
    export.field_sep = ""
    export.record_sep = ""
    export.fields = 2
    export.field1 = "pid"
    export.field2 = "apm_price"
    a_tbl.export()
    a_tbl.close()
    if file.exists(export_filename)
    response.redirect(session.session_url + "test.txt")
    end if

    Can anyone point me in the right direction ??

    Thanks

    Re: Dialog - Advanced Button problem

    I found the problem !!
    After hours of searching the forums I thought I would create a new basic dialog and see if I could get the Advanced Button to work.

    It seems that the problem was caused by the fact that I had changed the button name to 'Export' from the default Advancedbutton1 (NB not the button label, the button name).

    For some weird reason changing the button name to Export causes the error,
    Error in event handler code for OnClick event for 'Export': Property not found

    Any other name for the button seems to work fine.

    Is this a bug ?, I can't believe 'export' is a reserved name ?

      Mike,
      I can't believe 'export' is a reserved name
      Yes it is. Using "Reserved" as search word in the Help file Index brought up this choice...

        Hi Mike,

        Thanks for taking the time to confirm its a reserved word, wish I'd have looked at that list when I started using A5, it would have saved me a lot of time !!

          Re: Dialog - Advanced Button problem

          Welcome!

          There is at least one other list in addition to this one in fact that the search should lead you to as well...

          EDIT LATER--Here are the ones I just found with a search

          In addition, you may not use as variable names words that are part of the Xbasic language or
          the names of Xbasic classes or Xbasic objects.
