Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Alpha5 V10 Problems

    Hi
I am facing the following problems in my alpha five v10 web application.
    1. In Grid Builder if i select a field for set the properties the cursor moves up to the previous field(See the attached picture)
    2. I am unable to use the modern tab style in dialog component.
    3. I am unable to Redirect the page from the Grid AfterUpdateRecords event.
    4. If i use a checkbox control in Grid it's displaying the Value "0" or "1" next to the control. In Database(MySQL) field type is TINYINT.

Kindly let me know your thoughts on the above issues. Thanks in advance.

    Cheers

    Re: Alpha5 V10 Problems

    Vasan,

You are not alone in seeing some "squirrelly" behavior in Alpha Five. In the past, I have twice resolved some of the erratic behaviors by thoroughly uninstalling Alpha Five (do the uninstall procedure, then delete the Alpha directory from Program Files) and then reinstalling the latest FULL version (as opposed to installing an older version and then patching). You may wish to try this, as it is relatively easy, pain-free, and consumes only a few minutes of your time.

As to your checkbox dilemma, I have found (also working with MySQL) that Alpha Five does not necessarily support all MySQL data field types. Although I have spent time searching, there seems to be no resource that correlates the Alpha Five control with the appropriate MySQL field type(s). So you may wish to play with different MySQL field types for your checkbox. I haven't done any checkboxes, and am unable to offer you any guess as to appropriate field type. Perhaps try plain integer of length 1? Or binary? I generally steer away from the derivatives of the base field types (I try not to use short, long, large, small, tiny, etc), but instead specify only the base type of integer, blob, etc.

Sounds like your grid component is corrupt. If you send it to me I will investigate it.

      2. I am unable to use the modern tab style in dialog component.

That's because it is not supported. The dialog component is unchanged from v9. The Grid component is the only component that supports modern tab style (which was introduced in v10).

      3. I am unable to Redirect the page from the Grid AfterUpdateRecords event.

Can't comment because I have not seen your component, but I can say with 100% assurance, that this feature is working correctly. You need to be sure that you set the redirect target to <event> if you want to compute the redirect target in an event handler.

Again, can't comment in your case, but in my tests, I am not seeing any problem with TinyInt fields.

I have the same issue. If I have TININT(1) on one table , all is good but if I join 2 tables together then the problem crops up. I tried different data types , dropping columns and renaming, creating new web component from scratch. Nothing works.

I have MySQL 5.1 ... Anybody else have this issue. Perhaps we can narrow it down. The use of checkboxes is key to my app.
