    Default Text File

I have an application where I need to present my user with a text file which can be editable and added to or saved. I don't want to do this with a memo file, as I am afraid that the size will get too large too quickly. Also, other users might need to scroll back a few pages to see what is going on in the log file.

What would be the best way to do this?

    Thanks,

    Charlie

You cannot provide a means for your client(s) to open a text file for editing unless it is part of a database table (a memo field) or they actually download the text file, edit it locally, and then upload it.

Having said that, there probably is some client side software that you can make that download-edit-upload process very smooth.

    But your three choices are:

    - memo field with or without WYSIWYG editing window (available in V10)
    - they download, edit, upload.
    - some other software like Sharepoint or some client side utility that makes it smooth. But in the end, it will basically still be one of the two choices above.

Thanks Steve. I'll have to think it out more as to what I can do on this problem.

But I do very much appreciate your reply. Better than thinking that there was a way and spending a few unproductive hours!

    Thanks again.
