Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How do you separate Year 2009 from Year 2010

    My report is picking up transactions by month using the code
    YearNbr = year(txndate)
    MonthNbr = month(txndate)
    Mon01 = if(calc->monthNbr=1,expenselineamount,0)
    etc

    The report for January 2010 is now picking up amounts for January 2009 and January 2010 in the same column as a calculated field per the above. How do I separate the transactions with one column for January 2009 and a separate column for January 2010. Any help with how to define the year is appreciated

    David,
    What is your report based upon....what table or report? How are the dates being brought over to QRB---that is a DateFrom / DateTo, Quarter, Fiscal year.....?

    And I take it that both
    Code:
    YearNbr = year(txndate)
    MonthNbr = month(txndate)
    are calculated fields and not simply variables...

      The report is based on two tables, BILLEXPENSELINE as the parent, and ACCOUNT table. There is no filter on the dates brought over, its all the data in the BILLEXPENSELINE table. Each field is defined in the Report Editor as follows
      Account number Field in the ACCOUNT table
      Account Name Field in the ACCOUNT table
      DESC Field in the ACCOUNT table
      TXNDATE Field in the BILLEXPENSELINE table
      CLASS - Field in the BILLEXPENSELINE table
      JANUARY Calculated field using the code as shown above.
      FEBRUARY  Calculated field using MonthNbr2
      MARCH - etc
      What we do then is export the report into excel and have another QRB report that uses the excel worksheet as a table where we have added budget and forecast amounts for each month. The tax year is from July09 to June10. In Australia Tax Year and Fiscal year is the same thing ( I think !). I am not sure why the table picks up P&L data in Quickbooks prior to July 09 but it does.
      Hope this explains it better

        Re: How do you separate Year 2009 from Year 2010

        David,

        Code:
        YearNbr = year(txndate)
        MonthNbr = month(txndate)
        Mon01 = if(calc->monthNbr=1,expenselineamount,0)
        One way would be to have a dialog box come up with your date choices and from these have a variable set for the year of the ending date. Then your calc field would be...having say a variable called v_year (set to 2010 currently)
        Code:
        Mon01 = if(calc->monthNbr=1 [COLOR=Red].AND. year(txndate)=var->v_year[/COLOR],expenselineamount,0)
        One way and could be others as well dependent upon your scenario.

          If you use the calculation that you have for month and year, use the year to group by and put the month1 -12 as columns in that group.

          Then you will get a single line of 12 months for each year that is in the data.

            If both full years of data is wanted, then use what Al stated.

            But if only wanting July through December for the beginning year....and then January through June for the next year, each 6 month group could use what I stated to differentiate the two years....

            Guess it all depends on what is needed! Or what makes sense to you as each can actually do the same thing. :)
