Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    CodeJock ActiveX Calendar Control...

I am looking for someone who would be interested in getting the CodeJock ActiveX Calendar Control (http://www.codejock.com/products/calendar/?platform=com
) working with Alpha. By working, I do not mean being able to simply respond to a double click. I can do the easy stuff. I will pay for your services. If there no takers.... post a reply letting me know if you would be interested in sharing the cost of having Alpha do it for us. Thanks,

    Don

    Don,

Are you getting errors or do you encounter functions that doesn't work in A5?

      Re: CodeJock ActiveX Calendar Control...

      Hello Marcel,
Both, I guess. I haven't figure out how to get a time value that Alpha can "read" into a table. For example, I'd like to be able to double click a row on the calendar (a specific time) and be able to create an appointment from the currently selected name. I can create a double click event on the CodeJock Calendar that shows a message box of the currently selected person, but I haven't figured out how to extract the time from that event to enter into my table. Any ideas?

Quite honest no. I've done quite a lot experimenting with ActiveX and A5. As well components created by other developers as my own simple ActiveX components. When I create an ActiveX for use in Alpha Five I do not use variants or floats and use only one object class. The component is written "for" A5. From experience I know that Alpha Five is an application that "supports" ActiveX up to a specific level. The problem is that nobody knows where this level is and ends. I even believe the developers of Alpha do. If you encounter problems it will probably caused by A5. There is only one way to test this and that is create a simple form in Excel or Word and try to access the method or property of CodeJock. If that works then try that in A5. If your reference in Excel or Word work report the use of the method/event/property as a bug at Alpha.

Your suggestion to let Alpha do this is IMHO odd. If they advertise that Alpha Five supports ActiveX it is their shortcoming if not. So if you let Alpha do the development you pay for development Alpha Corp already should have done but what they haven't done yet.

Therefore, it is a shortcoming alias bug if the CodeJock function functions normal in Word/Excel and not in A5.

          Don,
I remember someone (Ira?) showing that a certain CodeJock function worked in an xdialog whereas it would not in a form....Is xdialog a possibility for you to use?

            Mike,
I believe you are right! I would actually prefer to do this in xdialog. I started in a form, but I'll spend a bit of time tonight looking at any Alpha examples and try it out on an xdialog. Thanks for the suggestion!

I would like to see there would be no difference between the Forms method and Xdialog.

I thought that was Dr. Peter Wayne but cannot find the post. I'm sure it was meant to have been fixed for V10.

                      Thanks Geoff and Marcel,
It was Peter Wayne and that thread I remembered.

I agree Marcel that if something is supposed to work it should....or be documented that it doesn't.

For anyone interested in the CodeJock Control, and it IS a cool control, here's a sample of xdialog I started this morning. Try double clicking on a time. Since there are no tables associated you will just see "John" in the dialog box. In short, I need to figure out how to add that double click event to a table. That is, when I double click 3pm on 1-08-10 then I like to create a record in a table with that (and other) info. You WILL need to have CodeJock latest ActiveX control installed for this to work. It can be found here:

                            Hello Don,

I installed CodeJock. The vb examples present do not load in my Visual Studio 2008 and generates a lot of errors when it is translated into a .NET project. Access examples does not work because I have the 2003 version and not 2007. The Access example generate an error on objects that are not present. Therefore, I looked at the vb code and help and found out that you have to use the Hittest object. This object supplies you with the information you need. It is an object that looks around on the surface at the click event and checks how, where and what. If it finds an calendar it will collect the date, name etc. So far, I'll wil install CodeJock again and try it again. The first hurdle is to learn how CodeJock works and that is simple reading through the help files, the second is a translation into Xbasic/Xdialog.

                            VB-code

                            Code:
                            Private Sub CalendarControl1_DblClick()
                                Dim HitTest As CalendarHitTestInfo
                                Set HitTest = Me.CalendarControl1.ActiveView.HitTest

                                If HitTest.ViewEvent Is Nothing Then
                                    ' mnuNewEvent_Click
                                    g_pEditEvenArgs.setNewEvent Me.CalendarControl1.Object
                                Else
                                    g_pEditEvenArgs.setEditingEvent Me.CalendarControl1.Object, HitTest.ViewEvent.Event
                                End If

                                DoCmd.OpenForm "FrmEditEvent", , , , , acDialog

                            End Sub
                            Description
The CalendarHitTestInfo Object is used to store information for the "HitTest" methods to test points on the Calendar Control.

The CalendarHitTestInfo Object stores the area on the Calendar at a specified point, the Day(If a day is located at the specified point), and the Event (If an event is located at the specified point).

The following methods use the CalendarHitTestInfo object: DayView HitTest, MonthView HitTest, CalendarView HitTest, and WeekView HitTest. All of these methods can be used in the "mouse" events to text where the mouse cursor was clicked.

                              Marcel,
Thanks for taking a look. I spent time last night reading up on CodeJock's help files and visited the support forum. Their help file is just OK. It's very thorough, but to a beginner looks foreign. It would be nice to see a "how to" or "start here" in their help files. Until I get a better grasp of their system it's going to be a lot of trial and error.
