Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Incredibly slow reponse time.

    I am still trying to squeeze better performance out of this product. I am trying to pull a select group of records out of our massive QuickBooks database. Below is me select statement on the passive link table:

    SELECT Salesreceiptlineamount, Salesreceiptlinequantity, Txndate, Salesreceiptlineitemreflistid
    FROM SalesReceiptLine
    WHERE (Txndate >= :StartDate
    AND TxnDate <= :EndDate
    AND SalesReceiptLineItemRefFullName IN (ELCU3166-ST,ELCU3167-ST)
    OR (Txndate >= :StartDate
    AND TxnDate <= :EndDate
    AND SalesReceiptLineItemRefFullName LIKE KIS%)

    I entered a startdate of 2009/10/11 and an enddate of 2009/10/17

    The pull has been running for 1 hour 21 minutes and counting. My Quickbooks file is huge. Is there any addtional tweaking I can do to this query to get it to run faster?

    Along with this, when I am refreshing a table, why does it appear the Qreportbuilder is reading the table twice? Making a 2 1/2 hour refresh actually take 5 hours? Is there some option or setting that I am missing?

      Not sure what you are running into..

      I'm curious if this query is different.

      SELECT Salesreceiptlineamount, Salesreceiptlinequantity, Txndate, Salesreceiptlineitemreflistid
      FROM SalesReceiptLine
      WHERE (Txndate >= :StartDate
      AND TxnDate <= :EndDate
      AND (SalesReceiptLineItemRefFullName IN (‘ELCU3166-ST’,’ELCU3167-ST’)
      OR SalesReceiptLineItemRefFullName LIKE ‘KIS%’))

      It looks like the commutative property of math.

        Re: Incredibly slow reponse time.

        It does not matter which version of the Query I use, it still taks a rediculous amount of time to process the data.

        To make matters worse, after processing for 5.5 hours today, I received the following error.
        =========================================
        Could not create local cahe for data from your Database. Your database reported the following error.

        Database API Specific error
        Your database returned the following error code and description to Alpha Five
        Consult your database documentation for further information.

        10004 - '[QODBC] error
        SQL state is 42500 while converting result set to DBF table'
        =====================================================

        Again, this is after 5.5 hours, 499230 records, twice and I still don't have my table refreshed so that I can generate my report.

        This program is slow and not very useful for large volumes of data.

          Pat

          Another option that can make sense is to build a test QB company file that has a limited amount of data in it.

          I usually load the slimest amount of data into it.

          Build the query to work and then turn it loose against the 'big' company file.

            Try a simpler query and then filter on the full name on the passive link table. That might perform much better...
