Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Re: Version 11 Predictions

Any wishes left in the genie's bottle? I prefer using the old eight ball. It answers questions in plain "text". speaking of which the ability to integrate text notification and being able to receive and process a text messages maybe using a preferred vendor. This is a growing field and would help take alpha onto mobile devices. There is also financial transactions occurring this way.

Which leads me to my next wish. Alpha5 integrating a financial clearing house options linked to your database.
This is a cloud to me beyond throwing a pay pal button on a site.

Bob there are some phone service providers that will convert any email you (or a script on your server) send them to a text message (you specify the phone number in the specially formated message or as a subject) I know Mexico main phone provider has that service so I Bet your service providers have that and more services to offer regarding this matter

This are some of my predictions for v11
        • Drag n Drop functionality in web apps
        • Integrated Charting Genie (im sort of cheating here since alpha made some declarations regarding this one)
        • Tons of action-javascripts
        • Introduction of Client-Side Xbasic (a translator from Xbasic to javascript)
        • Built in integration to some open source javascript libraries

        what do you think?

By the way I predicted the use of ajax without coding and active link tables for v9, so hopefully my "crystal ball" is still working alright ;).
Im going to look for those old post and link them here if i find them .

I think I scored on my client side xbasic prediction I only missed by .5 on the version (11 - .5)

I'd like to see a genie to write xbasic. what I mean is an easier way to write xbasic, so you don't mess up with the syntax. Something like point and click.

Same thought with the javascripts. some kind of a genie that facilitates the syntax. you point and click the components that you want to use and the genie writes the code.

                cheers

                  George,
Maybe clarify your prediction a bit more as
...a genie to write xbasic. what I mean is an easier way to write xbasic, so you don't mess up with the syntax. Something like point and click.....
is what we currently have for both the desktop and webside.

                    Re: Version 11 Predictions

I predict that version 11 will leave Version 10 dysfunctional unsupported and all the additional program genies unlimited distribution rights etc. in the same boat. I predict that v11 improvements will not be included in the downloadable help files nor V8 nor V9 nor V10 improvements will be indexed into the help files. I also predict that all the v10 videos and courses etc will disappear from the website. Has anybody ever wondered what happened to all those little turbo demo programs that were around before V8 some of which are still referred to in the help files? Hey get rid of what might help if it is no longer fashionable. Has this community ever considered rolling up its sleeves and rewriting the help files I mean look I think there are over 8000 pages or something am I wrong. Talk about a humongous project. No wonder it will never be done but why not index the new stuff into the help files so I dont have to be on line to find them.

George - sounds like you need to learn something like Access or another one of those completed development tools. You are certainly not a happy AlphaApper.. - some points valid - but - tad over the top.

I am not at odds with the product its innovation or capacity
I have bought multiple copies from V6 to V10 and have unlimited distribution of V9 and V10. I have spent more than just a few bucks on the product and most certainly will probably buy V11. I have recommended the product and the company received a good amount of business from that recommendation. My observation concerns the support policy of past products and the help files.

regarding making content and video (of all versions) easier to find - that is a topic that is of great interest to us. The Wiki is an important step in that direction. We are open to suggestions - please forward those suggestions to [email protected]. ALSO bear in mind that the Wiki is a good place for us to publish any user generated help etc
