Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    A5 Documentor in Version 10

I am having a problem with A5 documentor in Version 10. I get a messge something like: "Description: The program cannot find file "O:\Prospective\.dbf".

All of my data files exist in the same directory and are not read-only. There is a passive-link table and an active-link table within the database.

Is anyone else having issues with the documentor?

BTW, I did re-install it after updating to A5_10.

    Thanks,
    Dave

to be more specific, I am attempting to print out the scripts associated with a form. That's when I get the error message.

Re: A5 Documentor in Version 10

Are you documenting form scripts for all tables, or just selected tables? If you are picking the table(s) I don't see where the ".dbf" comes from.

A5Doc uses Alpha's enumeration methods to get lists of tables, layouts, etc. If a ".dbf" is returned then there is some issue with the database dictionary files. The way to test this is to create a new empty database in the same directory, add your tables to it, then run A5Doc against that database. If you do not get the same problem then there is corruption in your database files.

        Thanks, Bill.

I am running against selected forms. I sure hope this is not an issue with the data dictionary. I am REALLY tired of the data dictionary breaking!!!

Re: A5 Documentor in Version 10

            David,

Looks like you copied the files in "O:\Prospective" to "O:\Prospective2" folder. If that is all you did, it is not what I meant.

Instead, open the database in "O:\Prospective". Then from control panel, File, New Database. Name it Test. It will also be in "O:\Prospective" folder, but at this point it contains no tables. Right click on control panel to add tables to the database and select all tables in "O:\Prospective" (making sure there is no ".dbf". Now the only difference between this and original database is that there are no global scripts/functions on Code tab. Run A5Doc again on the Test database to see if the error persists.

            Bill.

Actually "O:\Prospective2\" is the working copy of my database. the other directory is just a backup.

Will try to create another database in the working directory ... just trying to avoid clutter.

                Bill,

still having problems with Documentor. The same issue as before. Copied the tables to a new database ... same problem. Took it off the network - same issue .. line 66 (I think). I do have an active-map table and a passive-map table in the database. Dropping them from the database did not fix anything.

                  David,

I have sent you a PM. I need a copy of the database.
