Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    variables in latest callback javascript sample

    I am at a loss which variables contain the data of the current row from
    a read only grid where the action javascript call back has the 'compute current row data' check box ticked. The e object works fine if the grid is updatable and can be seen with firebug in firefox. However when the grid is read only this data probably gets retrieved on the server but where?
    Also trying to display a variable in an alert as shown in the same sample generated gives errors. the sample is
    test_function = "alert('You submitted a value of: ' + js_escape(e._currentRowDataNew.lastname + "');"
    I hope somebody can help here

    Re: variables in latest callback javascript sample

    I am attempting to do the same...but I can't figure out how to address the variable. Direct reference to the field name doesn't work. Referencing the grid doesn't work.

    Has anyone been able to retrieve the field values of a non-editable grid with an Ajax Callback?

    Here is what I could find in the documentation about how this is supposed to work..NOTE the value pair _getData=true has been replaced with a property check box:

    Submitting Data when making a Callback on a Read-only Grid
    If you use Action Javascript to write the Ajax call function for you, you will notice that the Genie has a prompt that allows you to specify if data from the current row should be submitted when the callback takes place. If the row is a read-only row however, then data from the current row will not be submitted (even though the checkbox to submit data has been checked). The primary key values for the current row will however be submitted.

    If you need to data from the current row in order to execute your callback function, you can instruct Alpha Five to use the primary key values that were submitted to get data for the current row. Alpha Five will do a query to find the record with the specified primary key and it will populate variables with the same name (e.g. V.R1.LASTNAME) as if the variables had been submitted from the browser.

    In order to enable this feature, you must include this name/value pair in the OtherData parameter:

    _getData=true

      Re: variables in latest callback javascript sample

      UPDATE:
      Selwyn suggested using the debugger to identify the expressions of the data from a non-editable grid. By doing so I was able to identify the fields and how to address them. What surprised me is the value becomes part of the e object hierarchy and not just a variable.

      In my case I am looking for value of the Amount field when a user pushed the "Approved" button on a row in my grid.

      Using the debugger I was able to see that the Amount data was retrievable by addressing the variable like this:

      e._currentRowDataNew.Amount

      Hope this helps anyone else who is struggling with this.

        I am following this with great intensity. However if I move the button off of the row to the bottom of the grid, then it throws a javascript error.

        I am including my programming notes:

          Hi,
          I'm sure Selwyn Rabins is looking over our shoulders as last night I received an Email from Alpha that in the msg board is a 20 min 4 part video about these callbacks. This video explains and shows exactly how to see your data by using the debug. Watch these and all this ajax callback magic with the 'e' as p will become crystal clear. Very good tutorial. Thanks Mr Selwyn you're a Gem.

            Can you please provide a link or a reference to the video library?

            After reading your post I browsed through the standard video library, but did not find anything.
