Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Script works in interactive window but not in app

    Hi Guys

    I am confused by this. I have the following script that runs perfectly in the interactive window but gives an error when run from a button on a form.

    Code:
    dim tbl as P
    dim qry as P

    tbl = table.open("activities")

    query.filter = "Custid = Var->curclnt .AND. Funder_Id = Var->curfund"

    qry = tbl.query_create()

    cnt = qry.records_get()

    msgbox("Records","There are "+ cnt + " records")
    curclnt and curfund are variables that I enter manually when in the interactive window, but are normally chosen by from a dialog. I know these contain the correct info because I have run a dialog box to display them as part of testing.

    The script eror being generated is
    qry = tbl.query_create()
    No such field

    Strange, as it can find the fields Ok from the interactive window
    If computers are so clever how come someone as dumb as me has to tell them what to do?

    Are you sure you do not have a typo in your field names "custid" or "Funder_id" when you put the script in the form?

      Sometimes the error messages are best guesses.

      Where are your variables defined and what is their scope?

      Try

      dim tbl as P
      dim qry as P

      tbl = table.open("activities")
      msgbox("Var->curclnt",Var->curclnt)
      msgbox("Var->curfund",Var->curfund)
      query.filter = "Custid = Var->curclnt .AND. Funder_Id = Var->curfund"

      qry = tbl.query_create()

      cnt = qry.records_get()

      msgbox("Records","There are "+ cnt + " records")
      There can be only one.

        Code:
        query.filter = "Custid = [COLOR="Red"][B]'" + [/B][/COLOR]Var->curclnt [B][COLOR="Red"] + "' [/COLOR][/B].AND. Funder_Id = [COLOR="Red"][B]'" + [/B][/COLOR]Var->curfund [B][COLOR="Red"]+ "'"[/COLOR][/B]
        See changes in red

        I also recommend that you take a look at the help files for the <tbl>.query_create() syntax. I strongly recommend defining and assigning a value to the other parameters used by the <tbl>.query_create(). Otherwise you run a good chance of getting unexpected query results.

          Assuming all field names and variables exist try:

          query.filter = "Custid = " + s_quote(Var->curclnt) + " .AND. Funder_Id =" + s_quote(Var->curfund)

          Is it really Var->curcInt

          Using s_quote() makes it easier as it takes care of whether quotes appear or not. E.g. if variable is type n then quotes not required.

            Thanks for all the suggestions guys, but still the same problem.

            Stan - I ran the script you suggested and variables displayed the correct info, so I know they contain what they should.

            What is confusing me is that the script runs fine in the interactive window

              A posted sample would be easier to troubleshoot than making random guesses.

                Works fine here. with this script...

                Code:
                dim curclnt as c
                dim curfund as c
                curclnt = "000001"
                curfund = "1a"

                dim tbl as P
                dim qry as P
                tbl = table.open("activities")
                query.filter = "Custid = Var->curclnt .AND. Funder_Id = Var->curfund"
                qry = tbl.query_create()
                cnt = qry.records_get()
                msgbox("Records","There are "+ cnt + " records")
                There can be only one.

                    Thanks everyone.

                    I have even replaced the varclnt and varfund variable with hard-coded values, but still get the error.

                    It runs fine in interactive window, so I will just have to put this down to yet another weird problem with Alpha 5 V9 (I seem to have has quite a few).

                    I guess I will just have to try and find another way to acheive what I am after :(

                      Re: Script works in interactive window but not in app

                      Post a sample table and its support files for examination as Andrew suggested. There's no reason to look for another way.

                      Just duplicate the table and empty it if you wish. We can rename it to "activities" on our end. It would help to have an idea of the values to be found in the custid and funder_id fields.
                      There can be only one.

                        I didn't read but the main post in this thread and this might have already been. In the script that displays a dialg from which to choose curclnt and curfund, make sure these 2 variables are global.
