Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

how to create two "1 to many" links in a set ?

    Hello,
First of all, sorry for my poor english and i'm a newbie with AF10.

I have 3 tables i would like to link in a set.

One customer table including one ID_Customer field (indexed with autonumber)
One DVD table including one ID_DVD field (indexed with autonumber)
One Rent table including one ID_Customer + one ID_DVD

I would like to set up a set including the 3 tables with the following rules:
1 Relation One to Many: Customer (one) => Rent (many)
1 Relation One To Many: DVD (one) => Rent (many)

To be honest, i'm not able to do so...
The first relation is easy to implement but the second one seems to be impossible. The only action i can do is to set up a relation One To Many or One To One from the Rent table.

Could you tell me where i'm wrong ?
    Any help would be appreciated...

    Phil

PS: again, sorry for the english grammar !

You are not going wrong. You can only have one parent in a set. You seem to want two parent tables linked to the same child table.

See if many-to-many will do what you want.

Another choice would be to have rent as the parent table with a one to one link to both dvd and customer. You could have multiple records in the rent table linked to the same dvd and customer records.. For reporting and display purposes you could use two other sets.

Customer one to many to rent
DVD one to many to rent.
    There can be only one.

        Hello,

Creating two separate sets is probably the best way but i can only select one set when creating a form, so fields of the third table are not available in design mode...

        Take care,
        Phil

          Hi Stan,
I've tried this option by creating 2 different sets:
          1/ Customer=> Rent
          2/ DVD =>Rent
but unfortunately i can only choose one set when creating a form, so the fields from the third table are not available for browsing

Any option in design mode to add the third table ?

          All my best,
          Phil

Make set set where the parent is Rent and links 1 - 1 with Customer and another 1 - 1 with DVD.

              Phil,

If no success so far, describe what you want to accomplish, what is going to happen on your form, what is the purpose. Often that angle works better than describing what you want to do techically. Other developers can attack the problem from different angles that way.
