Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Record Sons XBOX time Database

Hi, Im trying to make a simple XBOX time recorder so i can limit my son to a couple of hours per day. I have set up some simple numeric fields Start Time EnD time and Total Time I want my son to enter the time he starts and ends like a diary record.

I want the database to work out how many mins hes being playing.

Can anyone tell me the Type of fields the Start and End should be is Numeric correct?

If someone could give me an idea of the calculated field expression to work out how minutes played

    Thank you very much, David

Just push the start and end buttons. They set the appropriate value from the function now(). IOW you don't have to enter a time.

Or is that what you wanted? For him to enter both times after the session?

Sorry Stan on my form I dont see any buttons that will enter the start time.

I was going to make the start time an automated field (so he cant cheat) the idea is when he goes to play he enters a record and when hes finished edits the end time and the form also records the amout of time used

Thanks for your help again Stan.

Open the form in design mode and edit the object's border tab, fill and forecolor. There are some differences between versions that cause display issues.

I've attached some screenshots of the significant features if you have to reconstruct the form.

Did editing the objects make them visible and usable or did you have to start over?

Hi Stan, I changed the colours of the box and this worked i can see the start and stop boxes. However when i press the buttons i receive an error Script on push line 14 and on the stop button the same but button 18.
Although the buttons are fab, i don't really need them.

I was only looking for the time to be automatically inserted on new entry and my son to edit the end time.

I still cant get around entering the data in 17:00 format

You might have to reconstruct the button scripts as there may be difference in the way V7 and V8 did things. I thought about creating the database in V5 but time fields aren't available.

Re: Record Sons XBOX time Database

You would have to use character fields since you want to enter the colons. Converting those character representations of time into values upon which you can do math is trickier.

I'll try to work something up.

Character field based version developed in v5.
