Default Downloading dbf files from WAS back to local DATA directory?

Ok...I've learned earlier, the hard way.... that you cannot transfer *.a5w or *.a5wcmp files off the WAS back into your A5WRoot directory without blowing things up. These files are altered when published to the WAS and are not interchangeable on the local development side of things. However, I ran a test where I downloaded from the WAS all the files for a contact.dbf (FPT CDX DDD DDM Ddx) back into the local DATA directory and didn't seem to have any problem. Is this OK? If so are there any caveats I should be aware of when doing this?

The reason I'm asking is my sample data is larger on the WAS than on my development directory. I now need to update the table structure and add some fields but didn't want to wipe out my data when I republish the altered table files.

There are many programs available, Microsoft has a free one but I find it hard to use, I use Synchro Magic, that will keep those files synchronized for you. This will also help make sure that you don't overwrite newer data.

Frank, so I'm Ok here with this practice?? I'm using an old version of WS_Ftp to simply log in and download 6 files when I need to. Never knew I could set it up to synchronize... great news.. thanks!!

I would think so they are only stand alone tables. Synchro Magic allows you to sync over ftp by the way.

I'll be darn... all these years never knew I cold do this with WS_FTP. It has a simple synch utility that let me set up a one way WAS-TO-LOCAL Data-to-Data Folder ... Thanks for pointing me in the right direction
