Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Time Picker

    Hi All,

I am brand new to Alpha. Previously I have been creating web apps using another product.
Can anyone provide some clues as to how to add a Time Picker(similar to a date picker) to an application?
Is there a third party application that can be integrated into a Alpha web application somehow?

    Thanks for any help!
    Steve

    Re: Time Picker

Attached is an image of one that I built as a grid. I use it as a popup to fill start/end times for those cases where you need to enter date/time for a point other than the present moment. The rub is due to limitations in JavaScript/browser model (or my own programming abilities), when one enters the time, it does not display in the parent grid until the user clicks submit. So it's less than satisfactory in that respect. When I have more time to focus on this, I will try to figure a work-around. If you were to incorporate this model directly into the "parent" grid, that would solve some problems while presenting others.

      Re: Time Picker

What I did is create a static list of times for dropdown choices
      ex.
      08:00:00 am
      08:30:00 am
      09:00:00 am

      and so on

I had to create a character field to hold this value.

In the CanInsertRecord and CanUpdateRecord events I convert it to a time value and then update the appropriate field. Seems sloppy to me but it works.

      using sql backend.

Yeah, that works well if the list is short, but in my case I needed 5-minute increments. A dropdown doesn't work well for really long lists. You might as well just type in a value manually in those cases.

          Re: Time Picker

One of the best features of the time picker I currently use on the other software is the ability to change the increments. Selections of 1,5,10, 15, 20, and 30 are available. Also available is to show or not show the seconds. Also, 12 or 24 hour.

You must be fast. The fastest I can move is in 1/2 hr increments.

Mr Casey it can probably be built. I am finding some limitations with web programming as opposed to desktop. If you get it sorted out please share it with us.

Okay, I found a great time picker. Here's the link.

My problem is I don't know how to integrate it into Alpha.
