Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    HTTP_FETCH(): "Secure Sockets Layer was not able to verify certificate."

    Hi. I asked this in another thread, but didn't get any response, but hopefully I'll get some feedback here.

    So, I have the following code in an A5W page:

    Code:
    dim settings as P

    settings.host = "merchantaccount.ptc.quickbooks.com"
    settings.port = 443
    settings.page = "/j/AppGateway"
    settings.method = "POST"
    settings.body = "<dummy />"
    settings.header = "Content-Type: application/x-qbmsxml"
    settings.SSL_ON = .t.
    settings.Validate_SSL_Cert = .f.

    qbmsresult = http_fetch(settings)
    http_fetch returns the following error: 1801: Secure Sockets Layer was not able to verify certificate.

    I have a few questions: Should it be possible to not verify a certificate with Validate_SSL_Cert set to false?

    I've checked the SSL connection both with Firefox and an online SSL Checker website, and both of them have no problem with the SSL connection. Is there something wrong with my settings above? I feel that that's the most likely problem, but looking at the documentation, I don't see a problem with my code.

    Also, it should be noted that the site I'm trying to connect to is the QuickBooks Merchant Services test site. It's widely used, and so the problem probably isn't with their SSL response. And I would think that Alpha Five would be able to connect, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong, if anything.

    Re: HTTP_FETCH(): "Secure Sockets Layer was not able to verify certificate."

    Your code is wrong.
    Code:
    settings.Validate_SSL_Cert = .f.
    should be
    Code:
    settings.ssl_ValidateCert = .f.
    I see that the http_fetch() documentation is incorrect and is the source of your incorrect syntax. The documentation will be updated.

      Lenny, once again you have the answer. Thanks! Turning of SSL verification (using the write member name) allows the script to work as expected.

      In development, not being able to verify the certificate is not a problem. However, I have qualms about not being able to verify the certificate when in production. Is there any chance that Alpha Five will be updated to work with the QuickBooks Merchant Services system in the near future (next three of four months)? It seems to me that it would be a great benefit to Alpha Five users, and probably wouldn't be a hard fix, since, as I explained in my last post, the QBMS certificate seems pretty standard.

      I am glad you are updating the documentation, because as a new Alpha Five and XBasic user I rely on it heavily.

        This will be addressed in an upcoming patch.
