Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Posting Field Rule

For some reason, one of my posting rules is not working on deleting the record. The problem field is Act_cnt in the Invent_details table. The PDF shows the field rules for this table. The act_cnt field is set to post to the Adjdwn_act field in the Inventory table. It works on add and change, but not on deleting the record. The Plan_cnt field is set the same way and it works as advertised. Could someone please take a look at the attached application and see what I am missing to cause this?
Open the inventory_wksheet form in design and run it. Select the October record in the large browse, then delete the details record in the browse just below it. It will set the Plan_cnt field in the large browse to zero, but not the act_cnt. The link below will show a short video of it in action.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
FWIW: This all works fine when deleting a record from the default browse, but not in the form. I've taken out all my xbasic coding in hopes of finding the cure, but no luck.

    Re: Posting Field Rule

Now this is strange. If I change the "Undo on Delete" to "No" on the Act_cnt field, then the Plan_cnt field doesn't undo on delete even though it is set to "Yes". But no matter which way I set it, I can't get the Act_cnt field to undo on delete. FWIW, this is on a set. So when deleting from the default browse, it works. But deleting from the default form of the set, it works just like the form I made, i.e. no Undo.
Hopefully, somebody will have time to take a look.

      Re: Posting Field Rule

I took a look. Ran into other errors. [ your form won't open cleanly from the control panel ]

Don't have time today to dig. Does the fact that your post field rule is conditional have any bearing on the behavior you're seeing? Are you expecting the undo to work unconditionally, or only when the condition is true, or what?

      Later on...
Take a look at the attached. I deleted your toolbar button and replaced it with a new one. Does it do what you need?

ps. I removed the filters you had on the child and grandchild tables in order to be able to open the form without throwing an error.

        Re: Posting Field Rule

        Hi Tom,
Really appreciate you taking the time to help.
        1. Didn't see the new toolbar button. Seems it's the same as what I had done, putting an "x" button to delete. Couldn't get a right-click menu to show on the control panel, so that's the reason I put the button up there. See you did get the right-click menu done for that browse.
        2. I didn't take the time to figure out why the form wouldn't open from the control panel, that's why I showed with the jing to go into designer mode first, then view it. There are too many other things going on in the app. Didn't feel this had anything to do with the posting rules.
        3. When you have time, take a look at this little app, changed from one Stan submitted in the ver.10 forum. It is showing the same thing, but has no conditions in the posting rules. The Num_fld2 field does undo on delete, but not field Num_fld1. They are both set the same in posting rules.
        Thanks again.

          Re: Posting Field Rule

Ernie, does the "X" I put in the toolbar work correctly or not?

            Re: Posting Field Rule

            Tom,
I thought it worked just like it did before. It deletes the record that is highlighted. The reason I put it there is because I tried creating a right-click menu to attach to the browse to delete the record, but never could get it to appear in the control panel.

              Ernie,

I guess I'm not making myself understood. Sorry.

I modified your form and put a new toolbar button in your custom toolbar. It uses different code than you were using before. In testing here it successfully deletes the current row from your browse, and the post field rules seem to work correctly.

When I asked whether the "X" button works correctly or not I guess I was hoping you'd let me know whether the post field rule issue you are asking about in this message thread had been solved. Your last response still leaves me in the dark.

                Re: Posting Field Rule

Sorry Tom. No it doesn't undo both Plan and Act counts in the Inventory browse. I can't see any difference between the buttons actions/setup. What am I missing. The image on the left is my original button properties, the one on the left is yours. Are you talking about something else?
