Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Error running addin 'Startup_100_register_Controls'

Can some one tell me how to solve this problem. I have read and searched the forum, but I am not able to find the cause of this problem.
It is probably a registry settings which is wrong.
    I installed Alpha 5 v10 on server.
    Thanx

    Re: Error running addin 'Startup_100_register_Controls'

    Andre,

There are a few files that get registered when you install A5. Seems that one or more might not have registered properly. Assuming you are using the install .exe provided from Alpha Software, try reinstalling A5 making sure you have full admin rights. If this is a 3rd party install program you might need to manually register the files.

    The files to register are:
    A5ContextEval.dll
    a5controls.dll
    Codejock*.ocx (4 files)

The above files are located in your program files->A5V10 folder.

    Scott

        Re: Error running addin 'Startup_100_register_Controls'

Can someone please help me to understand what this means:

        The files to register are:
        A5ContextEval.dll
        a5controls.dll
        Codejock*.ocx (4 files)

What does it mean "TO REGISTER" and how does one do that? Thanks.

          Re: Error running addin 'Startup_100_register_Controls'

Quick search using the words, without quotes, "register controls" revealed this thread which should explain how to do this....there are even code snippets (in other threads) that will automatically register controls with say a runtime install when necessary (not a usual circumstance).

            Thanks Mike
I'll check it out and, hopefully, muddle through. A bit scary to work on an app for years and then see this error message pop-up when you're at the point of trying to distribute it.

              Re: Error running addin 'Startup_100_register_Controls'

here is a needed update on mikes install:

              regsvr32.exe "c:\alpha\a5v10 runtime\a5controls.dll" /s
              regsvr32.exe "c:\alpha\a5v10 runtime\A5ContextEval.dll" /s
              regsvr32.exe "c:\alpha\a5v10 runtime\Codejock*.ocx" /s
              regsvr32.exe "c:\alpha\a5v10 runtime\SimpleChart4Lite.dll" /s

you would change the path to match yours
if you know how to make a batch file, put it in a batch file

              else

              make a text document
paste the above in the document
              save
then edit, and in the save as option, change to all files, and add a .bat to the end of the file name

if successful it will make a file with a "gear" icon - just double click it and it will auto run

PS: here is a batch file - but to edit it to change the paths to match yours, you must rightclick on the file and select "edit" - then save and run

                Bill,
                Check out the free program RegDLLView, available here;
                http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/registered_dll_view.html
It provides a complete look at which DLLs and other controls are registered, and a way to register new ones, or unregister those that may not be needed or are causing problems

                Regards,

                Ed

                  Ed,
I followed your suggestion and it appears that the files are registered (although it was mentioned somewhere that there are four CodeJock files and I only see 2 on my system) so I guess I'm not really understanding the problem or how to fix it.

I ran into this issue when I downloaded a runtime version of my app on a PC that had never had Alpha on it.

                  Thanks for your help,
                  Bill
