Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Number entries being rounded?

Hi, I'm having trouble with entering numbers without them being rounded, is there a way around this? I'm sure there must be, but I haven't been able to find out how so far. i'm new to A5 as you've probabaly figured :)

Any number I enter for example 1.175 gets rounded to 1.

    Whats the solution to this?
    Thanks

Check the structure of the table to ensure the record will accept a decimal - if it is on a form then check the properties for the object - check the display format in the format tab and ensure it shows decimals

Thanks very much, i've done what you suggested and now the decimals show up, however it still rounds the number up to the nearest number (nearest $1 for example)
Is there anything else that I could do to solve this?
      Thanks!

Did you verify that the table structure has the correct number of decimal places specified?

Right click on the table name in the control panel, choose Edit Structure....
        There can be only one.

You not only need to make sure the structure is correct, but also that the form is correct. Look at the objects' properties and ensure that you set it for enough characters to display the number and the "." and the decimal amount. For example, 5.17 would need 4 characters. If this is not set correctly the number will roll back up.

          Good luck,

          Charlie

            Re: Number entries being rounded?

Thanks, it does seem to allow more decimals but still seems to round the number, no matter how many I allow, it still rounds to the nearest whole number.
I've checked both the structure and form are correct and the problem still occurs, I'm sure i'm missing something simple though.

            Thanks,

            Leon

Time to post a zipped copy of the database for us to study.

                How does the VAT work?

                378.00 + 17.5% should be 444.15

                You're showing 446

If this is how VAT works a rounding error would produce 444, not 446, right? Maybe something else is wrong in your approach?

                  Re: Number entries being rounded?

Thanks for the replies! I realised that I hadn't changed the decimal value in the correct field in the table structure, and it went unnoticed even after checking!
My VAT calculations work fine now, and the numbers dont round up. :)
                  Many thanks,

                  Leon

That's the trouble with these machines. They do what we tell them to do not what we want them to do!
