Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Upgrade version problems

    Hello-
From reviewing many of the messages posted, I can only gather I am not the only one experiencing problems when upgrading to a newer version. I installed the full and runtime Alpha 5 version 10 locally to my machine. I have a database in version 9 which works with no problems, however, my company felt that there are some additional features in the new version we can use later on. The problem is that the new version doesn't handle some of the current form function I have setup in version 9. I have a form that has calculated fields on it as well as non-calculated fields. In version 9, when entering into the non-calculated fields, the calculated fields will change based on the entries. It doesn't do so in version 10 until you click to save the record. This isn't beneficial since we need to see the calculations happen on the form to determine what course of action to take next. In some instances, the save will not display the updated values until we close and re-open the database. I assumed the upgrade will not take away from this process but assist to enhance it.

Is there some kind of process I should have went through (importing database) for upgrading to version 10 from 9? Re-creating my database into version 10 is time consuming.

    Thank you-

    Neecy

    Re: Upgrade version problems

    Hi Neecy,

It does help us to help you by keep telling us what did or didn't work in another version.

The issue is how do you make it work now.

May I suggest you look at the OnChange event for you fields and Refresh actions for your form.

      Re: Upgrade version problems

In version 9, we came across a bug in the drop down option. The Alpha certified contractor submitted an email to Alpha database about it in which we were told it has been corrected into version 10. We just recently obtained ver 10 about 3 weeks ago and I installed and started using it within the last several days. I am testing our current database in version 10 and have come across the following:

*Calculated fields on my tab forms doesn't update based on entries of the non-calculated fields.
*The final script for packing my table generates an error that the table is being used in another process, which it's not since the preceding script closes it.
*Email feature setup had to be reset in version 10.

I am surprised by the refresh action since version 9 doens't require it

      Thank you-
      Neecy
