Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Javascript function declarations.

    In javascript function declarations, insert placeholder.

    only the {grid.object} seems to work.

    {Grid.RowNumber} generates the DREADED js expected ':' error.

    I have tried it on a few grids wirh the same results.
    Most of the grid methods work OK.

    If I try GRID1_GridObj.RowNumber returns undefined.
    If I try GRID1.RowNumber I get a js error 'GRID1' is undefined.

    Anyone?

    Take a look at the A5 generated HTML source. Look at the JavaScript that A5 creates for some ideas.

    The placeholders you reference can't be resolved in the context of an included JavaScript function.

      Re: Javascript function declarations.

      Bob, thanks for your reply,

      I am looking in the html view for ideas and examples. It is becoming very useful as I am better understanding this tool. I have learned to use the js alert() function as a makeshift debugger although there must be a better way.

      I was afraid of not being able to resolve as you have indicated. Is there another way to get the rownumber from the grid in an included javascript function being called from the onclick event from an image in the grid toolbar?

      I am able to pass the rownumber to the function from an image or a button on the grid rows, but I can't access the rownumber from the Grid toolbar. It works well with a one record grid where I can substitute rownumber with 1. It seems like there should be a way.

      I know I can do it with hidden buttons but that seems so costly. I would like to put the code in one function, call it, and be done with it. It is much easier to maintain.

      Any ideas are appreciated.

        Re: Javascript function declarations.

        Here's some code generated by A5 for a show/hide expression, which is essentially a watch event.

        Notice the reference to a data object and data.rowNumber.

        You may be able to use the same technique in one of your included functions.

        Code:
        GRID1_GridObj._detailViewWatches['SHOWHIDE_D_DVCONTAINER_1'] = {
        	watch: ['CREATEDBY'],
        	[COLOR="Red"][B]onChange: function(data)[/B][/COLOR] {
        	var CREATEDBY = GRID1_GridObj._getValue('D','CREATEDBY',[COLOR="Red"][B]data.rowNumber[/B][/COLOR]);
        	if(CREATEDBY==' ') CREATEDBY = '';
        	var showHide = '';
        	if( (CREATEDBY > '') == true ) showHide = '';
        	else showHide = 'none';
        	$('GRID1.DVCONTAINER_1.D.R'  + [COLOR="Red"][B]data.rowNumber[/B] [/COLOR]).style.display = showHide;
        	}
        }

          Re: Javascript function declarations.

          Frank,

          The other thing you need to watch out for is the use of included functions when referencing the grid in a tabbed_ui page because the {grid.object} will not resolve.

          Here I use inline JavaScript tied directly to the triggering event.

          I cover this in one of my video tutorials on delete checkboxes.

            Thanks for your warning regarding tabbed_ui I have not implemented that feature yet and your advice is well taken.

            The select all check-boxes video is slick. I think I can use that method to change all of the markup values in my estimate line items from one setting.

            Thanks again for taking the time to share with and educate us.

              Bob,

              All of your videos are great. I hope you don't mind that I 'borrowed' your search part hide feature. Very nice thanks.
