Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Color Equations

I am try to use the color equations.

I am trying to highlight a calculated field when it is non-zero.
Here is what I have setup

    Object Name: Able_to_Send
    Field: CALC->Able_to_Send
    Expression: if(Quantityonhand>0,if(Quantityonsalesorder>0,if(Quantityonsalesorder>Quantityonhand,Quantityonhand,quantityonsalesorder),0),0)

    Color Equation is Checked
case(calc->Able_To_Send=0,"Black on White",.T.,"Black on Bright Green")

Wheather Able_to_Send is 0 or not, the color remains unchanged on the preview.

What am I doing wrong and how should I code this to get it to work?

    Re: Color Equations

when changing the background color, you need to coordinate with another property.

on the border tab, set the fill style to something other than the default of transparent. (ie invisible)

        Hey Al,

Quick question about color formatting - I was previously able to work with it, but now the whole Color and Font Equations area is greyed out. Any ideas?

        Thanks,

All of the calculated fields. Did not check others. The color fill rules that I had previously configured are working fine; I am just not able to modify them or add more.

Seems like problem just went away when I reinitialized global variables. Looks to have been caused by broken calculations.

So if a calculated field has an error, (ie a global variable that is expected is missing..) then the color/font equation options are inactive for that object on a report....

                      Re: Color Equations

OK, I have now spent many hours fighting this debugger. No matter what I do, I get an aggravating popup when I use breakpoints and one is found, and there is NOTHING that I can do to get rid of it (quote contrary to the above videos). In effect, I have to click through "steps" for 5 minutes just to get to the part of the loop that is not producing expected results.

Also, the software continues to act strangely; when I tried using a sandbox set of books to get around the breakpoint problem, it threw out "could not create resultset from datasource definition" errors (similar to discussion here: http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/al...-Database-quot) when I tried to bring in the tables.

Please let me know what I need to do in order to make this thing usable. As it is, I have wasted 12+ hours that I cannot possibly bill the client as no results were gained.

Strange, but I just got the email that Max had posted to this thread...

Since Max's last post he has sent me an email that he has gotten past these hurdles, solved the issue at hand and is on to the next issue. Aren't we all??

I do still have the listed issue with the debugger, although I have not had any reason to use it further.

Basically, I do not have an option to "stop" the breakpoint, and it triggers on every step.

Right click on the breakpoint icon by the line number and choose an option? or click on the icon (now grey) that turned on the breakpoint and it now turns it off...
