Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Dynamically change drop-down filter on row expand

    Hi All,

I am still struggling with this issue that should be simple, but I can not seem to find the right recipe.

I have a grid with a row expander that opens a child grid that contains a drop-down.

I want to be able to filter my drop-down based on a value from the parent grid.

My approach was to use a session variable in the drop-down filter, but I can not get it to work because the Grid events available use Java Script and there seems to be no way to pass that value to a session variable.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to how I might do this?

    Thanks,

    Scott

Re: Dynamically change drop-down filter on row expand

            Wolfgang,

Thanks, unfortunately, the values passed are in Java Script and the Drop-down filter is in xbasic which means I still need a way to pass the java script variable value to a xbasic session value for it to work.

            Please see my screen shots.

            Thanks again,

            Scott

One would think this should be doable in some way shape or form ...

              No?

Re: Dynamically change drop-down filter on row expand

Is the property a field on the row expander grid?
If so you should be able to pass the property to the second grid, just hide it then maybe you could get your dropdown to cascading off of the property field even though its hidden.

What is the linking key between the parent record and the child grid?

If its a character, user something similar to this in your filter for the dropdown.
                  Code:
                  property_id = lookupc("F",YOUR_LINK_KEY,"property_id","PARENT_TABLE","INDEX_NAME")

                    Chad and Jay,

                    Thanks for your replies.

Jay, unfortunately the linking field is not the property id, otherwise your suggestion could have worked.

Chad, Yes, the property field is on the expander(parent) grid, but the issue is being able to use it in the filter for the drop-down. I see no way of referencing the value of the current grid row for the filter other then using a variable, field value or xbasic expression.

Like I said, I can get the value into a JS variable just fine, I just can't use it in xbasic :(

Re: Dynamically change drop-down filter on row expand

                      I'm a little confused?

I may understand better if I know how the tables are linked.

How is the parent record linked to the child grid?

How do you link the property name to property_id?

Sorry on my last post i had stated that the same field from the parent had to be in the expander grid, what i meant to say is that you need to link to a anyfield that you want it just has to link to the field that you want to be the parent on the cascade.

Scott hopefully you can get this to go sorry about the overload.
