Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

adding a user with a V-10 Grid component

Is it possible to add a new user to security using a V-10 grid component. Does some one has an example of this?

I created a grid to add a customer record to the customer table. Can I add the user name and password in the same grid?

If not can I create a grid just to add the user? I assume in the past this was done through a dialog component.

If possible a grid template for this purpose would be handy. The security tables are common to every web app created in Alpha. Every web app has to add users. Seems like a no brainer.

The code less claim of Alpha doesn't get through the front door so to speak.
    Tks

Yes this is possible but not in a codeless fashion. There are methods that you can utilize in xbasic to accomplish this task.

A new user dialog is probably one of the appropriate wish list items that would benefit a lot of people. It makes it a wee bit more difficult to create an e-commerce site or anything that allows users to register themselves to the site.

That would be helpful and appreciated.

Can't imagine to many web apps that wouldn't require a user to register himself. This feature could be added to the grid builder.

Sounds like its a matter of adding some fields to the grid builder and coding some server events. Sounds like a great idea for a grid template.

                  Hey Bob,

I am researching this issue as well. I followed the directions exactly, using the new a5ws_get-webuser_values(CurrentForm,UserValue) in the afterValidate property of the the NewUser dialog box. Still user not added. Maybe someone from Alpha5 tech department can address this, especially, since more and more people are looking for a way for users to self-register.

I think we all would love a 'user registration' component, kindof like the login component, but with the added ability to add more fields to the table of our choice with a ulink as a key between the two tables

Re: adding a user with a V-10 Grid component

I agree and suggested it in a couple threads. If you think about it you need to register someone before the login component is needed.

I see this as a V-10 grid component that adds customer info simultaneously with GUID info.

My conclusion on the examples in the webapp demo and the help do not include all the xbasic code to complete the redirect or the reset. I was able to get it to add a user only when I ran it from the web root. It did not work in Live preview. I also had to publish it a couple times not sure why.

I am still trying to figure out this xbasic code which goes in the after validate event in the server event properties.. The redirect must use the drop down box value. The box is dynamically populated using the variable PageList. Which includes any aw5 pages you have created in the project.
