Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Pulling in data from multiple charts

    Hello,
I am another newbie trying to create some meaningful reports.
I am trying to put together a report to show purchase orders, their related bills and the balance left to be billed.
I can't seem to link the purchaseorderline and billitemline tables. If I try to link the tables by customer, QReportBuilder freezes. If I try to link by vendor name, it freezes.
Am I doing something wrong or is it a technical issue?
    Thanks for the help.

Re: Pulling in data from multiple charts

    Laura,
How could linking on either of those fields create anything that could be visually seen?--that is each one has multiple records that would satisfy the other without any way to resolve....Instead maybe use either the Customer table or the Vendor table as the parent with the PurchaseOrderLine and BillItemLine as Child tables, both as One-to-Many in a set.

Let us know if this will work for you....
    Mike

Re: Pulling in data from multiple charts

I tried your suggestion Mike, but no luck. If I use the vendor/customer table as the parent and add the other 2 as child tables, it still freezes. I even tried just pulling in one of the child tables and there are apparently no results (won't preview).
I am pretty sure that I don't understand how to link the tables together properly. Unfortunately, I'm only at this job on Mondays and Wednesdays so I won't be able to catch a webinar in the near future (though I think I need to!:)
        Any other suggestions??

          Laura,
Is the attached screen shot indicative as to what you are trying to do--no real formatting but only spent a few minutes really . I linked the 2 tables you referenced to the customer table. There are other tables that could be the parent as well dependent upon your scenario.

I would have to see what you are doing to know what else is going on really--that is why the webinar would have worked so nicely.....and no way to contact you offline to attempt other ways of helping......

          Customer is in Red
          Purchase in Black
          BillItem in Green

Mike, that is exactly what I'm trying to do! What are data are the tables linked by?

              Laura,
Although you can choose whatever linkage you want (right or wrong!), in the case just use the default linkages that QRB sets for them....in this case the customer listID for each table.

....If this is not working then there must be another issue that would have to be looked at ---literally I think as otherwise just too much guesswork. Either the webinar or privately where I could actually look at how you have attempted this...a matter of a few minutes most likely to determine the issue (may not cure it but could determine it that fast!!). :)

email me with a way to contact you if you want. I have time now but within a half hour I will be unreachable for the rest of the day.

You may wish to edit out that number now... Sending it via private message is probably a better option..... don't need spammers to be calling you...

So what version of QB are you using? I see your phone number indicates Canada...

Some older versions of QB CA multi currency are limited because of the level of the Intuit SDK that is used for that version...
