    Default WAS Cost

I know this has been discussed before, but I'm still confused...

As a daily user of Alpha 5, I appreciate it's power and benefits. However, I have a couple of opportunities to build simple websites containing just a few pages and with no grids etc, other than maybe a simple 'Call Me' form to submit, which could even be an email as opposed to a form. Given the simplicity and low value of these websites, I find the cost of additional WAS licences prohibitive. Should I be looking outside of Alpha for these simple websites?

I do require them to be searchable via Google, which I am unable to do with 'Frame Forwarding'.

I recommend Notepad + Baby Server.
That is enough because you don't need any script language.

I'm in a similar situation. I'm developing a very simple project and considered other alternatives. Because I'm pretty comfortable with Alpha, appreciate its capabilities and that I might want to expand the project in the future, I contacted Alpha. I was able to get a pretty good discount on another version 9 WAS a while back. My payment is also credited towards version 10 if/when I decide to upgrade. Contact Brett Johnston.

For a stand alone and very powerful web site builder, I have used NetObjects Fusion for years. It's not cheap -- unless you're willing to live with the last version instead of current. Following is a URL that gives the instructions how to get NetObjects Fusion v10 for free directly from NetObjects with a full license number.

I use this all the time for whipping up sites that are static. Although NOF is very powerful to do a lot more.

I have had Netobjects since the first version. Currently have version 10. I have 6 sites using it. But for anything other than static, I'm a firm Alpha believer.

I use this http://www.wysiwygwebbuilder.com/ . It's 39.95 and will create a very nice website very easily. If you want to do some interactive stuff you will have to use php or something like that. This is no competitor to A5 products since it is primarily used to build static web sites. I think it is a good alternative for simple websites when A5 is overkill.

If I remember right the same person who has developed this wysiwygwebbuilder has also developed this baby (web) server I mentioned earlier in this thread.

Baby server is nice solution if you for example want to deploy with Alpha Desktop program a web server(asp) for displaying html though Alphas Desktops Web supercontrol.

In Baby Server there is just one exe.file and you don't easily find this kind of product anymore. Unfortunately the development of Baby Web Server has ended.

    Hi Eric,

Is Netobject compatable with Alpha? I have both and try to mix the two. Can I make a website in Netobject and import a "login" with a "database" from Alpha, to give you an example of my point og integration. I think maybe that Netobjects website builder is simpler to operate than Alpha that is more developer oriented!

    Best regards

I don't think they are compatible. I think I did try this years ago and found it too much work. I taught myself html and that is how I create my pages using Alpha. I barely use Netobjects these days.

    Ok Eric,

Thanks, I guess after sites has become more dynamic, Alpha is more appropriate. But I hope I can go by with not knowing to much html.
