Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Re: Activation server cannot be contacted

I can only guess that this is a temporary outage.... perhaps a weather oriented ISP/connection issue.

but the mention of a new licensing method is intriguing but rather old....

Re: Activation server cannot be contacted

I understand about that kind of stuff, I also live in the Northeast.

But, why/how did it become Deactivated.

Now, I could be wrong, but I am PRETTY DARN SURE that when I installed it earlier in the week I hit the Activate and had a green circle.

Yet when I went to upload to the machine on Sunday it wasn't Activated...

And, if you are going to FORCE something like this on your customers you should do everything REASONABLY expected of you and at least have another Activation Server hosted off-site somewhere else...like mid-west or west coast.

Re: Activation server cannot be contacted

There was a snow storm here over the weekend and power was knocked out. Services have been fully restored and you should have no problem activating now. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

We are working to relocate the activation system to a different location with redundant power and connectivity in order to prevent this from happening again.

Re: Activation server cannot be contacted

Your activation server did not like me installing v10 on my netbook right after I installed v11 on my laptop, which had 10 on it.
There was no entry in the remove program section of control panel, so I'm assuming 11 did the uninstall of 10 automatically.

Since I was able to activate 11, I would have thought the activation server would recognize the PC name and release the name from it's link to version 10.

I had 9 on the netbook, but it had to be removed manually after I installed 10.

Re: Activation server cannot be contacted

Jay, lots of people run multiple versions of Alpha Five side by side. We can't automatically deactivate anything.

Call or email sales and they'll clear your laptop license activation.

Me too. I am trying to activate V11 on the VPN server and get this same message. Version 10 is still installed on this VPN, but is not running. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Activation server cannot be contacted

I have two sites that i cannot get working. It says the Alpha server cannot be contacted at this time. Try back later. I have been trying for hours and so has Clive at Zebrahost, he did the installs so i know they were done right. I need a solution quick to get the sites up and running.
                            All the site says is:

                            403 Forbidden
This server's demo mode has expired.
This server was previously running in demo mode because it is not licensed for remote access. The demo period has expired so now this server can only process requests from the same computer on which it is running by using the URL http://localhost/.

To purchase a server license, visit the Alpha Software website at http://www.alphasoftware.com/

We had a power outage for about an hour yesterday afternoon. If the activation server did not come back up afterwards, we need to talk to our IT support people.
