Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

No I did not. However, I've changed the host files many times in my life and it always picks them up on the fly. I'll try re-booting each time though and see if that works.

Tried both ways, re-booting each time with no luck.

I believe this is now resolved after restarting our load balancing firewall for the 3rd time. Please let me know if you continue to have problems, and I'm very sorry about the inconvenience.

Re: Activation server cannot be contacted

This issue with the activation process has been brought up before. It is a huge problem with an otherwise excellent product. I also had similar problems activating V10 months ago. When I did call Alpha Software "customer service," I sat on hold for quite a long time and when someone finally answered, they were borderline rude. If you have a server crash on a Friday at 6:00 PM, it seems that you won't be able to get your license activation reset until the following Monday when the Alpha Software office reopens. I can't justify using the product with this looming potential problem.

I sent an email to Richard Rabins about my concerns months ago and never received a response from anyone at Alpha Software. Although, they do seem to have plenty of time to call me to try to get me to sign-up for the training in Las Vegas.

Re: Activation server cannot be contacted

Amen to that! I love the product but I hate the possibility of the issue you mentioned. I hate it because it has happened to me. The apps I run at the bank are not so mission critical that they cannot wait a day before I can deactivate and reactivate the key. You get egg on your face, but it doesn't shut the bank down.

HOWEVER, after several years of battling the .net bunch here, I finally convinced them to move forward with A5 on a very mission critical project. Yesterday, I withdrew the proposal and resubmitted it recommending using .net. We have had a rash of server issues here and getting them back up is bad enough, but not being able to bring up A5 until a key is reset is a hassle I really don't want to put up with.

Please, Richard or someone, come up with a better solution!

                        Regards

Re: Activation server cannot be contacted

I think many don't understand this problem until they face it in the real life.

There is nothing wrong with Alphas activating process if they did they support job as they should.

I got also feeling that maybe all users are not in the same line in this case.

I found that their email support just don't work in this case. I NEVER got any answer from their support when I had my problem. Here are people calling and asking to deactivate/activate. Do I really have to take a call to USA from Finland to get the job done. Do they speak Finnish to me?

I think Alpha should build some sort of panic activation possibility to their server which allow run the server for example one-three days without reactivating/deactivating AND ALPHA TEAM SHOULD IN THIS PERIOD THEN DO THEIR JOB.

                          Ken

We are working on new licensing that will eliminate this situation. Stay tuned.

I know this thread is old.

But this situation is happening to me right now with a new v11 install on a fresh VPS.

Original install went fine a couple of days ago.

Today when I tried to upload first set of files to the machine I noticed it said Basic Edition on the popup. When I checked the Session tab I have a red circle beside my License Number.

No matter what I have tried I can not get EITHER, I have two, License Numbers to Activate.

Found this thread and went through everything and I can not TRACERT to secure.alphafiveonline.com either from my VPS at 1and1 or my desktop machine in Pennsylvania.

                                This sucks...
