Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

<<%sql% vs <<%txt

I have lost about 1/2 hour looking for information describing what these tags do. The sql genie generates code that uses both of these. Can someone tell me what the difference between these two tags are.

What a shame to loose half an hour looking through wikis web sites and help files to find something that should take seconds.

Re: <<%sql% vs <<%txt

Unless there is something new of which I am not aware, there is no difference except the name of the delimiter (sql vs txt.)

Delimiters code, html, and dlg are special cases.
There can be only one.

Re: <<%sql% vs <<%txt

Frank,

I started typing the info below, then re-read your question. I'm guessing that the sql text blocks are just to signify sql code. Since anything can be used as delimiters, it makes sense to name the delimiter something meaningful. I had thought they would use <<%sql% ... %sql% to open access to SQL highlighting/pop-up help, but that does not seem to be the case.

Now, if they would do that, plus add <<%ajax% ... %ajax% with highlighting and pop-up help, that would be a real help!

Look at this help page.

In general, any <<%DELIMITER% . . . %DELIMITER% block allows for special formatting (such as quoted characters and crlf). <<%txt% ... %txt% is the most basic, and allow for a simple text block. In fact, you can use just about anything (like <<%myblock% ... %myblock%).

Special blocks work for various things:

<<%dlg% ... %dlg% for building dialogs
<<%code% ... %code% for writing code (and getting the highlighting and pop-up help associated with it)
<<%html% ... %html% for entering HTML with highlighting/pop-up help
<<%sql% ... %sql% for SQL code

and so on.

Hope this helps.

Re: <<%sql% vs <<%txt

Frank,

From what I understand you can put any text there. I ran into the same question you did also. Thought this was why my SQL code was not working. I thought my code was not parsing the string when in reality MySQL was kicking balking because of an integrity issue. Once I solved the database issue. It worked. Again does not matter.

Re: <<%sql% vs <<%txt

What is funny is that this works, flag returns true.
Code:
dim sqlInsertStatement as c
sqlInsertStatement = <<%txt%
insert into slitems (logno, itemno, qty, serialno, job_id, descrip, sellunit, record_id) values
(:logno, :itemno, :qty, :serialno, :job_id, :descrip, :unit, :lgItemsRecordId)%txt%
dim flag as l
flag = cn.Execute(sqlInsertStatement,args)
This does not, flag returns false.
Code:
dim sqlInsertStatement as c
sqlInsertStatement = <<%sql%
insert into slitems (logno, itemno, qty, serialno, job_id, descrip, sellunit, record_id) values
(:logno, :itemno, :qty, :serialno, :job_id, :descrip, :unit, :lgItemsRecordId)%sql%
dim flag as l
flag = cn.Execute(sqlInsertStatement,args)
I am just using the txt delimiter and all of the sql code is working ok.
