Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Fatal error running a5_ajax_grid

    I am using Alpha 5 version 10.
When I click the update button I get the following error.

Fatal error running a5_ajax_grid(): Property not found wk.jsObjectForSimpleNewRow subelement not found.

When this happens, I have to close the applicaiton but not the web server. When I log back in I see that the update/insert was successful.

Any help to figure this out is appreciated.

I tried this in live preview, with a table that does not have linked grids. Same problem.

I get the following error: a5_ajax_grid(tmpl)Property not found wk.jsObjectForSmipleRow subelement not found

      Jackie -

Can you be more specific about an "Update" button? I'm not sure which you're talking about. Do you mean the Submit button?

      Something to consider:

Sometimes, if I've fooled with a grid design for a really long time and made substantial changes again and again, it can get a little messed up. These are complex objects. If your grid isn't an extensive grid, and you can re-design it in a real short period of time, it's best to just do-over.

That raises another question: Does this only happen on one grid or all? I suspect just the one, but worth asking.

        Thanks Steve,

It is the submit button. Updates and deletes work fine. This error happens only when I attempt to insert a new record. The backend database is Oracle. The record actually gets updated. When I end the applications (not the app server) and start it back (republish), the record I attempted to insert is there.

I'll try you suggestion and rebuild the grid as I work on the grid at home and at work, importing the lastest version.

Can you create any grid that updates to Oracle without this error? Or do you get it every time with every grid?

            Re: Fatal error running a5_ajax_grid

I have started getting a similar error message when I try to add a new record via a Detail View from a Grid. My backend database is an Alpha Five Version 10 one and this has only just started happening.

The message I get is "Fatal error running a5_ajax_grid(): Not found images not found."

It happens when I click the "New Record" hyperlink I have added to the naviagtion bar and when I click "Save and enter a new record" from the detail view.

I can still view the Detail View OK - it only happens when I attempt to add a new record.

All the other Detail views from other grids are working correctly.

I can create grid that update the Oracle backend database. The problem started happening when I introduced the tabbedUI component.

this is happening on all grids.

I applied that latest patch. 2814-3539.

I was reading some other blog entries, discussing the same issue. They rolled back to previous patches.

I am rebuilding a few grids to see if the same issue exist. It may be that importing the database may have contributed to the issue.

The problem appears to be with the application server. I turned on error logging for the app server. Stopped and restarted the app server.
Following are the from the error logs.
[Thu May 06 17:14:08 2010] [startup] Server is starting.
[Thu May 06 17:14:53 2010] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] Connection reset by peer
[Thu May 06 17:15:14 2010] [Forbidden] Your security credentials do not allow access to this resource.<p>
[Thu May 06 17:15:14 2010] [Forbidden] Your security credentials do not allow access to this resource.<p>

Based on the above, I am going to turn off security and see if that make a difference.

does the Oracle table have an auto-increment field that uses a sequence? if so then that's probably the problem. we currently do not have any way in the grid builder of associating a sequence with the primary key of a table. we are adding this now and expect it to be in the next a5 update.

                        Thanks Selwyn.

Our organization is an Oracle shop and I am using Oracle sequences for all of the backend tables for application I am building. Any workarounds will be helpful. I will make sure that the sequence is not the primary key for the table.

Again thanks for this informative clue.

We are working on adding this support right now. we should have a test build ready for you tomorrow.

If the sequence column is NOT the primary key, then you should be OK.

it does not look like your problem has anything to do with oracle sequences.

it looks like it would be an easy problem to track down if you could send me your component so that I can run it on my machine.

if the component is based on a .dbf table, i need that too.

if it is based on a sql table, i need a backup of the sql database.

                            thanks

                              Hello Selwyn,

In the Query(AlphaDAO) section of the Grid component, I modified what Alpha 5 see as the primary key (did not change the primary key in Oracle, but did choose a field that is unique, in thes case the PR number). The insert worked fine after this. Thanks.
If possible, please give a one sentence overview of the patch, relative to using Oracle sequences as primary keys.
